After Some Serious Procrastination

No no no! I mean consideration. Yes, that’s the word. Yesterday I spent some time, it may have been hours, on Ravelry deciding on a new project. I tried to find something that was both practical and fun. I decided to knit the Sparrow Fingerless Mitts. I’ve looked at all the projects on ravelry and read though all the helpful notes. I have a plan in my head which sounds a lot like knitting socks but I think it will work for this pattern. I will be using the pattern as my guide and I will be winging the actual knitting. Hopefully this will not come back and bite me. The yarn I’m using is Socks That Sock lightweight in the scum bubbles color way that has been residing in the stash for quite some time.

Once I had made the decision what was next I discovered that Sheri at The Loopy Ewe had posted the info on her blog for the first quarter Loopy’s Challenge. After all the great projects I made this year, stepping outside my comfort zone and having fun doing it, I knew I was going to do it again next year. There are three options for this challenge and all three sounded pretty good to me but in the end I decided that I was going with the materials challenge. I’ve knit with beads before and I really liked the end result. When I had decided on a challenge I went looking for ideas on Ravelry. I used the pattern search to find beaded projects and then narrowed the categories down to things I like to knit like cowls, hats and socks. When I saw the Ein Himmel voller Luftballons socks pop up on my monitor I knew it was the pattern I had to knit. I love them! As I have done with all the challenges I have jumped without giving full consideration to just how challenging the project will be. I know I can knit socks. There is no challenge there. I know I can adapt a sock pattern to get a pair that fit me. Again no challenge. The biggest challenge with this project will be reading the pattern: It’s in German. I’m sure I can figure it out. They’re socks, how hard can the pattern be? I bet if I get stuck Liz, my knitting neighbor, will help me. She speaks German! Is anyone else planning to do the challenge?

I really like the yarn you’re using for the mitts. Lovely colors. Looking forward to seeing it knit. Those socks — what fun!

Cute socks. I am sitting here having finished a blanket and cowl and trying to avoid going back to my sweater, beret, or cable wrap. Hmm, fingerless mitts. I need a pair since my pup chewed up my alpaca pair. Yes, you read right, my ALPACA pair! I just might have to shop patterns for sport weight mitts.

I have never knitted with beads. Good luck. I don’t think I am joining the challenge as much fun as it sounds. I Have so many other WIPS right now…

I would like to try knitting a beaded project in 2014. I’m not settled on a pattern yet, though. You’ll have to let us know how you like the experience.

Yes please! Sign me up for translation duties!
The only problem now is that you have made me think of the song Neunundneunzig Luftballons and I’m going to be singing it all day!

Sounds like a really cool challenge – unfortunately I missed the chance to fully participate via purchasing etc. but I’ve book marked it and will check my stash for suitable and clearly they sell it too yarns. Who knows what I’ll find, but the idea intrigues me … so, something to chew on while I’m busy planning new goals, things, ideas, projects and a whole new life for myself! Thanks for sharing and helping me along the way πŸ™‚
