Sorry for the extra bad photo. I didn’t finish up my square until dark and I’m too lazy/tired to redo the photo. We can pretend the words are more important.
As you can see I got caught up on the squares. I went hunting for more sock yarn leftovers and found a few more. There are more, I’ve just got to dig a little deeper. I may abandon my plan for a solid square next to a decidedly not solid square. It depends on what yarn I find. So far I’m finding more solids which surprised me because I think of my socks as being mostly multicolored.
In the process of looking for the yarn I found the missing size 7 needle. I’ll get back to the sweater later today, after a square. I’m behind about 15 rows on the sweater. It will be tough catching up on that with the rounds getting longer. No pressure though.
Yesterday our governor announced there would be remote learning for the rest of this school year. They’ve also cancelled all athletics. It’s sad how many things the kids are missing: no proms, no graduation, no sports. At least they’ll have a story for their kids and grandkids. The main learning challenge for our house is going to be AP exams which will be held online. People are already talking about when school starts in August/September they don’t know what it will look like. I’m not ready to think about that yet.

Your squares are looking wonderful so far! It really is such a shame for the kids graduating from high school this year – they are missing out on all the fun stuff they worked so hard to get to. But as you say, they will have some good stories to tell 🙂 Say – let me know if you need some sock yarn scraps – I think I have some I can send you if you like.

I hadn’t noticed the “yeah, right” next to the heading of your blog until today!
And I, too, wonder what life will look like in the fall, especially for places like schools where physical distancing is not possible in overcrowded classrooms. And churches, and town meeting, and all the other places people congregate. Home Depot, yesterday, had police presence outside with huge signs saying “No entry without a mask.” And people were mostly compliant. It certainly would cut the risks in schools if everyone wore one.
You seem to be making great progress on the squares. If you find and finish all your bits of sock yarn, let me know – I have a bag.

I’m surprised at how people react to the mask suggestion. At Wegman’s they have a no one allowed without a mask sign. All employees were masked as were all customers. Stop & Shop had no sign. About half the customers and half the employees had no mask. It is such a simple thing to do particularly if you think of it as doing it for someone else.

I really like your mitered square project — is this your pattern or is it available. I have seen the ones that you join after knitting each square but I like yours connecting as you go. Happy knitting!!

It is available on Ravelry. It’s Knitted Patchwork Recipe by Martine Ellis. I found SewSweetViolet’s notes helpful for the individual squares. MiataMiMi explains how to pick up the stitches so the squares are attached. She also has a link for applied I-cord which I intend to use for the edge of mine.

I love the mitered square sock yarn project! I started one at one point, and then got distracted and stopped. It might be time to pull it out of hibernation again. That seems like the perfect project for right now.

Our governor stated that schools “are not going to be opening any time soon.” Obviously, after a while, it is not worth opening the schools until September. I know in our district, the kids who deal with anxiety or attendance issues would not have success in transitioning. I have been working all day. I want to knit, but my lids are getting sticky. I am still dragging on those heels.

We’ve been told that the entire summer will be remote for us; likely we’ll continue working remotely as well. *sigh* As for leftover sock yarn, in the process of moving this last week I found a basket full of little balls of leftover goodness. I’m not sure they’d be big enough for you to use for your project but I’d be happy to send them your way!

A therapist I know has a dozen new patients: seniors in high school who find themselves lost with no real end to their high school education and not knowing what college will look like in the fall. It’s horrible for them that they aren’t getting the experience they have spent years planning for.
