A Quick Post About The Ribbing

Lessons! This pattern has taught me so many knitting lessons. They are different than other things I’ve been taught along the way.

The ribbing you see above is the arm hole. In the instructions I read words put together that I have always believed from other things I’ve read and heard as knitting taboo. Every single pattern I have ever read says bind off loosely. Every one. For the first time ever a pattern says “preferably binding off tightly”. My head nearly exploded. This sounded like knitting heresy! But look at that bind off. It looks damn fine and feels sturdy to the touch.

In full honesty it didn’t say how to bind off the ribbing at the bottom of the vest/tunic so I went with loose. It’s rolling a little. I wonder if I’d done it tighter would it not roll. I’m not taking it out to see.

While I’m being totally honest, I tried it on before I started the ribbing on the arm but after doing the ribbing on the bottom. The fit does not flatter my shape. I’ll finish it up, block the living daylights out of it and see then how it looks. Maybe finishing the neck and arms will polish it enough to make it look more flattering once blocked. Maybe not.
