The sweater is done. I had to be very stern with myself and have a forced day of knitting in order to have it finished. It will be passed along today to the recipient.
The pattern is Baby’s First Top Down Cardigan or Vest by Deb Gemmell for Cabin Fever. The yarn is Lamb’s Pride cotton fleece in blue bird. It’s a great pattern for a quick gift. It is well written and gives options for a vest and full placket of buttons. The yarn is nice. I don’t think I’ve used it before. It feels soft enough for a baby.
This is the first pattern I’ve seen that includes the instructions to knit buttonholes on both sides. I’ve heard of it and considered it in the past but had never done it. The garter stitch button bands are knit as you knit the sweater so it was super easy to try this. It worked out well. I just hid the holes under the buttons. I also avoided that where to sew the buttons on dilemma I always seem to have.
One other thing, if you’re unfamiliar with top down sweaters this is a great first one. I’ve knit a few and this one has excellent instructions and goes quick enough to get through the yoke in a sitting. That’s the bulk of the learning in one sitting. Yay!
So beautiful!!! Wishing you and yours a Very Merry Christmas.

Yay, indeed – It’s beautiful. I’ve also thought about doing the buttonholes-both-sides thing, but have never tried it. I particularly like the raglan accents.

Looks very similar to the 5 hour baby sweater I made about a gazillion times. 🙂
