Let’s Talk Tea

I’ve always wanted to be a tea drinker. I have this picture in my mind of tea drinkers being really calm, totally zen and kind of classy. Over the years I’ve bought lots of tea and it just didn’t stick for me. I’ve tried many brands, flavors, caffeine full and caffeine free. I just couldn’t get in the habit of wanted the cup of tea. Well that is until I discovered chaga tea. (Link goes to a Webmd article about the health benefits of chaga tea.)

A few months ago The Husband and I started have a cup of chaga tea every day. At first we were having it in the evening after dinner. It is caffeine free after all. Then as the temperature dropped we started having it in the afternoon. I really look forward to that peaceful half hour sipping hot tea (I have mine with some local honey to sweeten it a bit) while I catch up on email, texts or in this case writing a blog post.

I love tea. I have so many tins of loose tea. This time of year I make a small pot when I get home from work. It helps me transition from work to dinner/housework.

  2. I’m a tea drinker so this looks interesting to me. Where do you purchase yours? Does it taste like mushrooms?

    • It doesn’t taste like mushrooms. It tastes like earthy tea. It has the same tannins taste as I get from black tea. Having honey or maple syrup adds that balance to the flavor. I’ve been buying the Buddha tea brand at the local health food store. I’m lazy and like making tea with tea bags.

I like herbal teas might have to try this one 🙂

For some reason the thing that tells me you have a new blog post up for those that I follow, that we sign up to get, went to my spam folder, keep an eye out on those you follow, hopefully no one else is having that problem.

I had never heard of this kind of tea- very interesting! I just stocked up a bit, since Girl #2 will be here for a week. My current favorite is Celestial Seasonings Apple Cinnamon…it’s more cinnamon than apple, and boys is it good!

  5. I’ve never heard of this! I, too, think it would be lovely to relax with a book and a cup of tea in the afternoon, but it sort of never happens. I have several boxes of tea in the pantry though! I’m a fan of chamomile and peppermint, and recently Double Bergamot. I shall look for this one!

Chaga tea, huh? I’ll look into it. I’m a dyed-in-the-wool (pun intended) morning coffee drinker, but I’m pretty open-minded come afternoon.

My current favorite afternoon delight is [decaf] Chai tea, and like you, I enjoy a dollop of honey. 🐝

I will have to try chaga tea. It’s difficult for me to find tea that I like, too.

    • I want to like all the caffeine free herbal teas but I have to be careful of the flower ones like chamomile. It tastes fine but makes my lips itch and I’m sure it’s a mild allergic reaction. I had the same thing happen when I tried strawberry kefir (the dairy variety).

Chamomile is related to ragweed, so if you have an allergy, that maybe why. I just ordered some whole, dried chaga. I’m going to try it in my teapot with some cinnamon sticks and other whole spices.

      • I am allergic to ragweed so I’m sure your right. I’ve read about using the whole dried chaga and it sounds like a great way to get as many benefits as you can. Having it with cinnamon and other spices will make a really tasty tea.

We tend towards green tea and Earl Gray tea.
