Have You Ever…

Have you ever measured your feet? Not to figure out what size shoes to buy but to tell someone else what size socks to knit. I did that once a long time ago for a sock exchange. That is when I learned my feet are basically square. They’re 8 inches long (yes, I have stupidly small feet. So small that shoe shopping is depressing. I’m often sent to the kids section.) and 8 inches around. I have what I call Fred Flintstone feet. They’re wide and short.

I think my quirky foot size is why I like hand knit socks. I can make them just right. They aren’t too long or too narrow. They are just right.

As you can see I’ve been working on the heel. I went with the pattern and did a plain stockinette heel. I’ll regret that later if the heels wear out quickly but there is nylon in this yarn so I’m taking the chance. I did 8 repeats of the lace pattern on the leg which when added to the ribbing made for an 8 inch leg length.

How’s your crafting? Did you get some time to enjoy it over the weekend?

  1. I have ugly feet, I try to avoid thinking about them. 🙂 No crafting this weekend, I was driving and shopping, but I did make a lot of plans!

I did some evening knitting this weekend. After spending all day in the garden, I enjoyed a nice shower, cuppa tea and my socks. I have a HFO!

I’m still loving that bright color! I have longish, very narrow feet. My heel could be an A if they made it, which is why I live in tennis shoes, so they can be sinched up tight enough.🙂 I am finishing my dress today. Just one more body seam on the jacket, then the binding around the neckline and front edges, with s9me hand sewing reserved for a video conference later today.

  5. Participated in Knit in Public Day Saturday (but I think you saw that post), and have spent some time yesterday and today working on the sweater.

I have only ever knitted plain socks, and many of them, I haven’t the confidence to try fancy ones.

  8. Pretty sock pattern! I like handmade socks as I have pretty big feet, so regular socks never fit me right.

I have only ever knitted one pair or socklets – I love handmade socks but find knitting other things more satisfying. Did you know, usually your foot is the same size as the space inside your arm from your wrist to the inner elbow? Try it!
