Some Weeks Require Three Flavors Of Ice Cream: A Quiz

When I was out today mailing the payment for the furnace I stopped at the grocery store for bread and ice cream. I decided on Neapolitan because just one flavor wouldn’t do.

Anyone who has been around here for more than a bit knows I have a thing for ice cream. It (and turkey) would be my death row meal. I thought to help pass the day a food quiz would be fun. Feel free to answer in the comments or leave a link to your post if you’re answering on your blog. Here we go.

  • What is your favorite food?
  • Do you have a favorite dessert that you can’t pass up?
  • If you were on a deserted island and could have only one food besides the fish and coconuts on the island what would it be?
  • What is the best meal you’ve ever eaten?
  • Is there a food you wish you could make?

Here are my answers.

  • My most favorite food is ice cream. I couldn’t live on it alone sadly. I also love roast turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy. But no giblets in the gravy please!
  • Apple pie with ice cream. Or ice cream cake. Or a brownie with ice cream. I love most a la mode desserts.
  • I’m breaking with expectation here and saying bread. I would want an ever changing variety of bread.
  • I’ve had a few really good meals in my life. First I have to mention the Thanksgiving and Christmas meals I had as a child. My love of turkey comes from these memories. I wasn’t a good eater as a child. Saying I was fussy is mild. But eating turkey dinner with all the fixings at the dining room table was my favorite and I ate more than two bites of each food. When I was a teenager my father took my mother and I to a fancy restaurant where we ate prime rib that was so tender and delicious. I think it is the best beef I have ever eaten. On our honeymoon we drove from the east coast to the west where we were starting our married life. Along the way we stopped in New Mexico to ride the Sandia Peak Tram and we had dinner at the top. It is by far the fanciest place I’ve dined. The views out the windows were spectacular. I’d love to go back.
  • So many things! I’d like to make pastries. Things like apple danish and cream puffs. I am a better cook than baker. I also have a tiny kitchen that isn’t great for making things that require space to roll things out.

Now that I’ve done all this talking about food I’m hungry.

    1. Pasta. I love it, and it’s my go to food whenever I’m eating alone.
2.Chocolate cream pie with whipped cream. Heaven.
    3. Cheating a bit, but fruit. After a while without it my boys craves it.
    4. The Christmas Eve smorgasbord we had when my children were little. Such fun sitting on the floor watching a Christmas movie.
    5. I wish I could make a big meal without getting crabby.

  2. What is your favorite food? Chocolate, with shellfish a close second
Do you have a favorite dessert that you can’t pass up? Anything chocolate – lava cake is perfect!
If you were on a deserted island and could have only one food besides the fish and coconuts on the island what would it be? chocolate – and something green?
What is the best meal you’ve ever eaten? On the balcony of a south Chicago restaurant – perfectly cooked salmon, really fresh and perfectly cooked snap peas, a delicious potato cake.

    • Once upon a time we used to be able to get Laura Secord chocolates here in the UK and they did a terrific Frosted Mint – the most perfect mint chocolate truffle covered in a vibrant green-coloured chocolate shell. So if you could get these you could have chocolate and something green and it would only be one food!

Food is important at our house, and we both like to cook. So I will have a go at the quiz.
    1. I don’t think I have a favorite. But I’m always happy when served a nice piece of salmon.
    2. Almost any kind of cake. I tend not to eat it too often because the icing doesn’t agree with me.
    3. It would have to be bread, especially warm, crusty baguettes.
    4. I’ve had so many great meals, it’s impossible to say. From a standpoint of flavor and atmosphere I would say the fish and braised fennel dish I was served at a cafe in Paris on our wedding anniversary. I asked the server how it was prepared, but she spoke no English. She did a great job with pantomime and a smattering of French words we did know.
    5. I adore Thai food, but it requires multiple specialized ingredients not available to me. So I can’t make it.

It’s not my favourite food but I am currently craving some salt and chilli chicken from my local take-away…also, I do now really want some ice cream! 😀

  5. What a perfectly wonderful quiz!
    My favorite food is chocolate.
A favorite dessert that I can’t pass up would be Christmas Pudding, home-made of course, and accompanied by Rum Sauce.
Besides fish and coconuts, I’d have potatoes on my desert island then at least I could do something approximating fish and chips.
I think the next meal will always be the best meal I’ve ever eaten!
I wish I could make a decent Yorkshire Pudding, but somewhere on the way through my life I’ve utterly lost the ability. I know I had it once and I don’t know where I left it.

The Girl and I currently have a tub of neapolitan ice cream on the go. Sometimes it is the only compromise, especially when we only have a tiny freezer…!

  9. I saw Sarah’s post first and commented on her post…but now I’ve read yours I need to comment here too as I love ice cream too!

My favourite food is pizza. Desserts would be ice cream or anything chocolate or lemon flavoured…that includes chocolate gelato or lemon sorbet. . I’d have to have gelato/ice cream on the desert island especially as I assume it will be warm there.. Best meal I ever had was in a Thai restaurant in Christchurch, New Zealand and every mouthful I could not help but ‘mmm’ out loud. Tried to book for the following night and it was fully booked. I can’t think what I can’t cook…I mean I don’t enjoy cooking so I guess I just haven’t tried to make most things. I live in hope my husband will take up cooking as a hobby at some point.

  10. Ooh, a fun quiz!
    1. My favorite food is probably white peaches; I could (and have) eaten them every day and never grow tired of them.
    2. I have a hard time passing up more savory desserts. The best I’ve ever had was a biscuit with peaches (no surprise) and various types of caramel for sweetness, sprinkled with salt. So delightful.
    3. Potatoes.
    4. Best meal I’ve ever had is such an impossible question! I miss the family meals at my grandparents’ when I was young. It’s hard to best some of their cooking. Thankfully I leaned to make almost all of it so can still enjoy it when I want.
    5. I desperately wish I could make my great-grandmother’s white bread. It was the only bread I’d eat as a child. I have all of her recipes but she didn’t write down that one. I’ve tried for years to recreate it.

  11. 1. My favourite food is these cheap packets of chicken ramen they sell in my local discount supermarket. There’s probably no nutritional value to them, but they are just my ultimate comfort food.
    2. Hmmm it’s hard to narrow down to one dessert. Probably anything with peanut butter in.
    3. Mangoes! They’re my favourite fruit and I bet they would taste even better on a tropical island.
    4. Pad Thai in a Thai restaurant in Glasgow city centre. It was the best food I had ever eaten at the time, and nothing has beaten it yet.
    5. I wish I was better at sourdough bread. I can make cinnamon rolls and crumpets and pizza, but my bread always comes out wrong.

What is your favorite food? Hard one!!! All of it? But ice cream does rank up at the top, then again, so does lasagna.
Do you have a favorite dessert that you can’t pass up? Key Lime Pie!!! Or Cheesecake.
If you were on a deserted island and could have only one food besides the fish and coconuts on the island what would it be? Like you, bread!!!! I never tire of eating bread, but I would definitely tire of ice cream or lasagna
What is the best meal you’ve ever eaten? Again, a hard one. Any one where I was eating lobster? But maybe it was the Osso Buco I had at Charlotte Motor Speedway one night. Divine!!!
Is there a food you wish you could make? A perfect pie crust. Of course, I’ve never tried it. Or the biscuits I used to make at Hardees when in high school. I couldn’t get the ratio divided down to work.

    Coffee and scones

    What is your favorite food?
Hmmm, I’d say seafood. The adults in my family used to say something like I had expensive tastes.
Do you have a favorite dessert that you can’t pass up?
Probably ice cream. My husband has bought many a tub of Tillamook from Lucky.
If you were on a deserted island and could have only one food besides the fish and coconuts on the island what would it be?
    Chocolate with nuts.
What is the best meal you’ve ever eaten?
Hmmm…can’t pinpoint one particular one because our family has had many a feast over the years.
Is there a food you wish you could make?
