A Q & A With A Side Of Knitting

Look! I worked a few more rows on the blanket. It’s about 31 inches wide and 16 inches long so I’ve just passed the halfway point. This leaves me hopeful but I’ve got to knit at least a handful of rows every day if I’m going to finish before the baby arrives.

After a weekend spend doing things that I find annoying I thought it would be fun to talk about things that annoy us. I thought it would be fun to do it as a quiz.

Feel free to answer in the comments or leave a link if you’ll be answering on your blog.

Here are the questions:

  • I have more than my fair share of faults. I’m sure everyone has one or two. I find one of mine particularly annoying. What is your biggest fault that you care to admit to?
  • Is there something you have to do that really annoys you? Maybe you would never do it again if you could?
  • When it comes to your crafting, what is the thing about it that annoys you the most?
  • Does your significant other annoy you at times? What annoyance about them would you change?
  • The whole Covid pandemic has been difficult. What has annoyed you the most? Is there something that others have complained about that you find is a positive?

Here are my answers.

  • I could write a book of my faults but the one that annoys me more than any other is the fact that I hate doing things (like clean the house) that have to be done again quickly. I can literally wash every dish in my sink (we have no dishwasher-a minor annoyance except at holidays) and 5 minutes later there are more dirty dishes. Never ending chores are so annoying and I can’t stand them! I’ll leave them until the last possible second and then it’s twice the work and triple the annoyance.
  • I don’t like to dust. I would never dust again if I could. It piles up though and once it’s disturbed I have to dust.
  • I have a few annoyances with the crafty stuff. First, I can never find what I’m looking for. Be it yarn, needles or a pattern, it’s always a hunt and I have been known to just give up and buy another set of needles. It’s wasteful but it saves my sanity. Second, I’d really like to learn to sew. I have a decent sewing machine and my junior high home economics skills but I suck at it. It annoys me that every single time I try to sew something I end up with a barely passable item. I’ve got a ton of beginner tutorials saved on Pinterest but I just can’t convince myself to sew napkins or pillowcases as a way to get better.
  • Of course The Husband annoys me at times. The one big one that I’ve learned to live with is he can’t get anywhere without directions. We can go the same place three or four times and he still needs me to tell him which way to go. Did I mention that he was a navigator in the Air Force? When he got his car he had to have a navigation system. Ironic isn’t it?
  • Oh Covid. There are so many things to be annoyed about. My biggest annoyance is the fact that no one cuts the folks in charge any slack. This is a first in my lifetime: a global pandemic with a virus that doesn’t behave like a standard virus. We are all learning on the job and when we know better we do better. Lots of mistakes were made at all levels. The fact that a health issue has been turned into a political issue is just plain wrong. Nothing is more important than people’s health. My positive is being at home. I know a lot of people have missed their usual social interaction. While I have missed taking a vacation or going to eat in a restaurant, I have a new appreciation for being at home.

Lately the only thing that annoys me is that I am getting older and can’t do ALL THE THINGS like I used to. But it’s okay. I am learning to focus on what is most important and what truly nourishes me.

  2. One fault I have is impatience. Especially when in a line. Another is taking too long to make decisions on simple things, like what to order in a restaurant. Big things though, like buying a house or car I can decide quickly.
I too hate dusting, always. And I foolishly bought a black tv stand!
Crafting is like shiny stuff for me. I see a new craft and want to get all the supplies for it. I am trying to focus on just a few, weaving, sewing, painting. Knitting for evenings.
Yes my husband annoys me at times. He walks slowly, and I walk fast. Bugs me!
COVID, biggest issue is people failing to wear masks properly, and missing seeing family. Positive is feeling good when making masks for family and friends. Makes me feel that I am helping in some small way.

Impatience!! My biggest flaw. I can deal with it sometimes, but mostly, not. LOL. I hate cleaning, but more because I have sensitivity to chemicals, I prefer breathing. Crafting irritant, no time to do all the things. LOL! Hubster cannot sleep with light or noise, so there went my listening to music to fall asleep. Covid-I am not sure why we think this virus is any different than any other we have dealt with. It may have a different attack on our individual bodies, but it’s still a virus that does what a virus does. But I agree, the politicalization of it is ridiculous, on both sides.

  4. I am with you on the sewing! I am a total disaster with a sewing machine, and not sure why that is 🙂 My biggest crafting irritation is weaving ends. Half the time I don’t even bother, so I have raggedy ends all over the inside of my knits 🙂

  5. 1. My biggest fault? I always time trips out of the house to the last possible second before there is no possibility of arriving on time. I just have to read that last 10 minutes, or finish a chore, or knit a little bit more before I spring into action, which means I have a frantic drive across town to arrive on time.
    2. What really annoys me? I have a couple of autoimmune diseases that make taking a shower an horrific adventure. I can stay in bed for hours avoiding the shower. If only I could avoid them for the last of my life…
    3. Crafting annoyance? Sewing knitted items up at finishing time. I absolutely hate doing the seaming!!
    4. My significant other is a kitten, and it is impossible for her to annoy me because she is so stinking cute!!
    5. The worst part of the pandemic? People rejecting science, refusing to wear masks, and having a government that is actively encouraging people to get sick so we can achieve herd immunity. Sigh. I hear other people complain about staying home… ha! I’m a few years ahead of the curve and now I can stay home without feeling guilty about it. 🙂

I am not sure if my biggest fault is procrastination, over-spending, over-eating, laziness, intolerance or oppositional defiance.
I don’t like doing anything that I HAVE to do. It churns me up inside. If I had the money I would definitely give up work.
I get annoyed that the finished craft item falls short of the image in my head.
My husband annoys me because he never puts anything away after himself and I am constantly picking up after him.
I am fed up with every group in society claiming that they have been forgotten. Where do they think all this money they are asking for is coming from? I was unemployed from jan- july and i had to live on JSA with no extra help because my husband earned just over the pitifully low Universal Credit threshold . On the plus side i started work in july and I can work from home. I love it.

    Sloth
Is there something you have to do that really annoys you? Maybe you would never do it again if you could?
Dishes! I had a dishwasher before I had a kitchen sink.
When it comes to your crafting, what is the thing about it that annoys you the most?
Forgetting how to do something I used to be competent at – but don’t do often enough to remember!
Does your significant other annoy you at times? What annoyance about them would you change?
I’m sure he did – but now that he’s deceased, it’s hard to remember how!
The whole Covid pandemic has been difficult. What has annoyed you the most? Is there something that others have complained about that you find is a positive?
My life has not changed in any great way. Most difficult: not being able to visit mom and other family in assisted living settings. Having my camper van keeps me from being stuck at home – and if I am being home means I get more knitting done, so it’s a win-win.
