FO On Sunday: Stockholm Slipover

I was going to wait and post tomorrow but I was too excited. I am both pleased and saddened to say I am done with my Stockholm Slipover. I was quite concerned as I dillydallied all month and really had to push through the last few days. In the end I am mostly happy with the vest/tunic. I am sad to see another Camp Loopy come to an end. I looked back and discovered that this was my 9th year at Camp. It’s so much fun to dedicate my summer to stretching my knitting skills. The increased yardage each month is a challenge particularly as the days are warm and therefore my knitting interest isn’t high. I love Camp and am looking forward to next summer.

As I said the pattern is Stockholm Slipover by PetiteKnit. The yarn is Stonehedge Fiber Mill Shepherd’s Wool Worsted in granite. The pattern is so well written. I learned how to do German Short Rows and Italian Bind Off. Two excellent skills I’ll use again. The yarn is soft and the skeins are a generous 250 yards. I knit the XL size hoping for oversized as opposed to snug. I probably could have knit the L. I used 841 yards of yarn which was over the required 800 yards for August.

The instructions for binding off the neck and arm holes said to bind off tightly. I would recommend binding off the bottom ribbing tightly also. The 3/4 inch ribbing at the bottom would like to roll but the arm holes and neck do not. Pulling the stitches a wee bit tighter as they are being removed from the needle made all the difference. When I put the vest/tunic on (it’s just below hip length) the hem does not roll. If it seems like it will I think I’ll thread a piece of elastic thread through the inside of the bottom and pull it just a itsy bit tighter than the ribbing just to hold it in place.

I will be knitting another PetiteKnit pattern. As I made my way through the pattern I never had a question as to what I should do. When I knit a pattern I like being told what cast on, bind off, increases and decreases a designer used. I want to end up with a project that looks like the photo. I don’t want to reinvent the wheel. If I did I’d design my own projects.
