Sock It To Me Monday: No WIP

I’m not currently working on any socks. I’ve got a couple that have slid into UFO status. I’ll get back to them eventually. I thought I’d take a few minutes today to suggest a few sock patterns that I really enjoyed knitting.

The sock in the photo is Groovy Socks by Caroline Hegwer. It’s one of those fun patterns to knit.

Here are a few other patterns:

  • Dublin Bay Socks by Ryan Morrissey: an easy to knit pattern that is almost mindless but not quite.
  • TGIS Day Socks by Yvette Noel: lacey cabled socks. Great knit in your favorite solid color.
  • Stitch Surfer Socks by Louise Robert: A fun challenging pattern that really aren’t that hard once you get the rhythm. There are a couple of YouTube videos that are a lot of help.
  • Infant Socks by Judy Ellis: Newborn size socks. They make a great quick gift. Also if you’ve never knit a sock this pattern is a way to knit an entire sock in a sitting.

I hope if you are looking for your next sock pattern you’ll take a look at these and enjoy knitting (and wearing) them as much as I have.

  1. Those stitch surfer socks make my eyes go funny 😂. I’m not very adventurous but never have been where clothing is involved. When I used to work in an office I’d go shopping, try on one top and buy it in every colour, if a pair of trousers fit I’d just buy 3 pairs, if jeans fit buy 2 pairs, t-shirts buy one in every colour I like. I think this has continued into my sock knitting and why I have now got 6 pairs of Hermione’s Every Day socks and why I plan to make another Quick Sand cardigan.

Thank you very much! Definitely going to look at these. I’ve just got bitten by the sock bug. I’ve all but finished my second sock, I just need to Kitchener the toes. 🧦!

The first sock I ever made was an infant newborn size. I even put a stripe in it in a different color. I think it was the hardest sock I’ve ever met because it was so small and the idea of three needles all stuck together and going round and round was rather daunting. I’ve kept it as a Momento in my craft room hung up over my notions chest. I only made one. xoxo

  6. Love the sharing of resources. What is it about knitting that you like so much? And what in particular about socks? I knew people that just hated socks lol – so I was curious?!

    • I am a multitasker so when I watch tv I need something to do with my hands- besides eat. I did a lot of cross stitch but once the walls had pictures I felt like it was a wasted effort. I started knitting seriously when my daughter was small making sweaters for her. We lived just outside of Caribou Maine so they were a necessity.
When I discovered patterned sock yarn I had to try it and I was hooked. Once I got good at knitting plain ones I wanted fancy ones. Now it’s a mindless thing I can do, my zombie apocalypse skill (or pandemic distraction) and at this point it is both comforting and meditative. Plus if I ever find myself in a situation where I lack confidence I look down at my feet and I remember that I can take a piece of yarn and turn it into a sock. Most people can’t do that. That is my super power, along with getting one more squeeze out of the toothpaste tube:)

I love how the self-striping yarn is transformed on the leg of those socks. I have about 7 rows left on my current pair then they are done! I loved the pattern, but don’t think the yarn was the best choice. IDK. I’ll show you in my next blog post.

Random question: but do you try to always have a pair of socks in the works? Honestly, your socks are just amazing. 😀

    • Often I do have a sock going. But I also have a 3 project rule-never more than 3 active projects. Currently I have a sweater, sock blanket and I’ll be starting a shawl May 1 so I don’t have a sock going. There are 2 UFO socks but I’m ignoring them:)

I like your rule of 3! I sometimes get distracted by new, shiny projects when I’m working on something big. I’ve 2 big projects on my needles right now and 3 small ones.

I really want to make progress on my Mom’s sweater, but it’s really light yarn and I’m kind of terrified of getting it dirty while working with it. 😱
