Ever Vigilant With A Side Of Q & A

Myles is really enjoying his life these days. He’s got his people home nearly every minute. This makes for extra petting and treats. What more could a dog ask for you wonder? Well he particularly loves the parade of people who pass by our house. We aren’t the normal walking route and with just about everyone getting out of their house there are people passing by most of the day. Myles keeps his eye on them to see if they’re social distancing or coming to the door. He’s very proud when he tells the mailman to back away and every day he does.

I’ve been wondering how everyone is passing their time at home. I thought maybe a quiz would be fun. Feel free to leave your answers in the comments or a link to your blog so we can all read them. As we know we are all in this together!

  • How are you filling your time at home? Are you cleaning out your closets? Crafting? Maybe trying out new recipes?
  • Have you discovered anything worth watching? My local cable company is offering up free channels, is yours? Have you trying anything you’d like to recommend?
  • Have you found a silver lining to this whole stay at home thing?
  • Have you found a blog post that’s been particularly inspiring to you? Please share. It doesn’t have to be coronavirus related, inspirational is the only requirement.

Here are my answers.

  • To be honest I’ve hit a slump. I felt pretty gung-ho that first week. I knit, cleaned, caught up on laundry, walked a couple of miles every day. Now I’m sitting on the couch. Not good for me or my mood. I bought extra flour and sugar when I shopped thinking I’d do some baking. Maybe I’ll set a goal for the weekend to bake something.
  • We watched The Celts on CuriosityStream. It was so good. Then we watched Tiger King on Netflix. It’s like a car accident, you don’t want to look but you can’t stop yourself. What a wild (pun intended) tale. It won’t gain you any IQ points but it will show you a slice of society you may never have known about. We are getting DogTV for free currently so I turned it on for Myles. He wasn’t impressed. While he did go crazy at one point when a squeaky toy was squeaking nonstop, the rest was dull. He much prefers the view out the window.
  • Silver lining? Well, not quite. I have connected with a couple people who I hadn’t heard from in a while. I’ve added a few new to me blogs to my daily reading queue.
  • I’ve been reading Marilyn’s blog for quite a while. She always has great knitting projects and the speed with which she knits them is amazing. I particularly enjoyed this post. It’s how I plan to move forward. I’ve got my lists already started. Thanks for the tips.

  1. How are you filling your time at home? Are you cleaning out your closets? Crafting? Maybe trying out new recipes?

I am still working. I am in the food manufacturing business so there is that. The first week, I took off. I basically hit a mental block and couldn’t keep it together. So I didn’t. I have been spending all of my other time at my partner’s. Q and I sit and discuss life, what we are learning about (ourselves and others). In the first week, I finished my non-fiction business book proposal. I sent letters to about 130 literary agents. Likely that nothing will come from this one – but I did it. This week I have mapped my science fiction story. I decided to create another world and live there for a while. I have the outline 90% done. The 10% missing is important and I cannot cap it off yet… I started naming tonight. First words were going to be tonight but then I say your questions 😉 I made a late meal and am prepping to hit the pillow. Q and I laid in bed and talked about the day (we call that our landing routine), and both dozed off. I got up and am getting a couple me-minutes in. Pillows soon though. Doubt I will write tonight.

Have you discovered anything worth watching? My local cable company is offering up free channels, is yours? Have you tried anything you’d like to recommend?

I don’t have cable. Netflix or the like, all the way. I have been listening to a lot of podcasts, or audiobooks. Yes, the Tiger King is on the OMG-I-Can’t-But-I-Will list. Q likes murder documentaries and crime shows. Watching one about The Unabomber now.

Have you found a silver lining to this whole stay at home thing?

I feel like I have got to see some of the beautiful humanity that I knew was there. I also realized how spoiled Americans are. We don’t want to be inconvenienced for a full lockdown so you can still get your Starbucks. Yet we wonder why we are now leading the pack, not in a good way. Blame Trump (which I do not like, btw), but its much bigger than “him.” Judging by the numbers…. it is going to get a hell of a lot worse. And I made a will. Made plans if we get sick. If I get sick (traveling to work), I will stay away since she has kiddos. If she gets sick, then I will be here to take care of them. I have been doing any runs (only one so far) to prevent their exposure. We haven’t left other than 1 grocery run when it first started. Trying to actually quarantine. The silver lining would be that I found some writing time. A voice. I made time to write a new prison pen-pal. I am finding more out about me and the web that is up “there.”

Yours goofy. I have been so heavy into writing that I haven’t went exploring. I get your emails so I run with those for now (and the others that I follow).

I have been working a lot more than normal. At first I was resentful looking at all the people who were knitting all day every day. Then I realized how fortunate I am to be working and getting paid. Life is pretty much the same for me except a little more stressful at work.

We watched Tiger King. As an Okie I was a little worried about what people would think of Oklahoma. It was a train wreck. We are watching Devs on Hulu and each episode is better than the last.

Have you found a silver lining to this whole stay at home thing?

Not yet. I’m eating too much chocolate and drinking too much red wine. Maybe the silver lining will come when I run out of those things.

Kate Davies just posted about gratitude for her drying rack. I found it inspiring and started looking around my house for things to feel grateful for.

    • In our house we love Oklahoma:) Nothing could change our mind on that. We visited in 1985 right after we got married. We had friends stationed in Enid. We drove through a large portion of the state to get there and west. I loved how far I could see. The rain storm was way off in the distance and we could see it coming. The next day there was a hailstorm that amazed us:) Someday we want to drive across the country again and Oklahoma will be a must visit location:)

I was the opposite. The first week was a huge slump for me. Too much thinking on my part. Now my routine is starting to take hold again.
We had DogTV for a while when we first adopted Razz, and he HATED it!! He would physically turn away from the tv. Myles is not alone. As for the flour? I needed it and could not find any! Isn’t it funny how everyone responds/reacts differently? How are you feeling now? You ok? Not blue?

How are you filling your time at home? Sewing of course. Haven’t touched my knitting in a week.
Have you discovered anything worth watching? Nope, no time to watch TV, since I like to watch foreign productions and I don’t speak those languages. LOL
Have you found a silver lining to this whole stay at home thing? Nope, My house is over run with 2 more adults and 2 extra dogs. I am beginning to feel oppressed. LOL But I have been on the phone more, actually hearing voices I normally text.
Have you found a blog post that’s been particularly inspiring to you? I read articles from epidemiologists and immunologists to get a better understanding of risk and precautions. Also to understand that I am not in a risk age-group or health risk group.

Hope you find peace in your situation and that life will find a better rhythm for you. I think that’s what is causing a lot of the unrest. Our rhythm has taken a bump, and we are waiting for it to smooth out. I know I am.

I’m still working as a health visitor, but since last week, I’ve had to work from home and contacting my families by telephone. Home working is a bit isolating compared to working in a team environment, especially since we are all at home more anyway. I also work as a clinician at 111 so I’ve been doing extra work there, which breaks up staying at home. Until last week I was dividing my time between my own home with my adult son and cat, and my partners home… So last week I had to make the decision of where my home was going to be during lock down, so this week I started living with my partner, and today I brought the cat over. I go home to pick up my post, check in with my son and check my house is still standing etc when I go to see my parents who I care for, socially distancing all the time.
I’m definitely not cleaning any closets! And oddly I haven’t knitted much either… I’ve stopped watching all of the news all of the time and limit it because I just found it added to any anxiety that I was feeling. I have started home cooking a little more, partly because all the greedy people stock piled on stuff that they probs have intention of using, so we have had to use up any store cupboard items and be a little more creative with left overs.

Now I don’t have to travel to work so much, it means my working day finishes a little earlier… Looking forward to the lighter nights.
We’ve also spent time in the evening after work, going for our walk, instead of just dropping knackered on the sofa waiting for out evening meal to cook. And soon, I will be getting out into the garden at weekends because he’s just moved here, had the garden cleared and needs a total overhaul, not sure if he realises that this will include a little kitchen garden with fruit bushes and a nut tree hahaha…

Making a mental note of checking out Tiger King! Loving Race around the world on BBC…

  8. My cat is having the opposite time to Myles! Although he is very used to having me home Jack is now not being allowed outside and he is very upset about this. Our vet has closed to patients other than extreme emergencies and Jack is prone to getting into fights and coming off the worse. So I don’t want to be stuck in a situation. I am also worried that he will get himself lost and because of lockdown, I won’t be able to go and look for him.
I don’t show him videos on my phone or tablet because he tends to get over-excited and scratch my screen. But I have set up a bird feeder outside my craft room window so hopefully, that will be some cat TV for him.

I am planning to answer your quiz in a blog post soon 🙂

I am still working so not much extra time at home. My Saturday knitting group has turned to ZOOM as an alternative, so we still see each other. Those ladies are all at home, so they live for the interaction. My watching hasn’t changed much, and my blog reading has been nil. The silver lining? This introvert never has to go out! I know it will grow old, and I miss seeing mom, that’s the worst of it. But mostly it has just been learning to shop around shortages and breaking habits on how we do things.

I am enjoying the time and have been less anxious than I was last month. I get up at like 8-9 now; the husband starts his work in the dining area earlier and then moves back to his office after I get up and get ready to go on the Bowflex.

How are you filling your time at home? Mostly I am scouring the Web for humorous and/or informative stuff about the coronavirus. I have become responsible for providing day-brighteners to my six follower. And of course I am knitting feverishly in the evenings.

Have you discovered anything worth watching? I occasionally binge-watch The Good Place. My husband takes over the tv during the day but I get it in the evenings. We gather there at 4:30 every weekday to watch Jeopardy.

Have you found a silver lining to this whole stay at home thing? Yes. It has allowed me to do some stuff I have wished for weeks/months/years to have the time to do — organizing my office, knitting up stash yarn, etc. Also, I learned how to use FaceTime.
