Gauging My Crazy

Sorry for the dark photo. I waited too late to take the photo.

I’ve completed the gusset decreases. I could have this sock done later today if I’m not distracted by other things. Unlikely since distractions seem likely.

About the title. Things are “busy” here. There are the usual things, plus the extra worrying things, plus the taxes and the final pair of socks for Loopy Grad School and the added medical stuff. All this has me on the edge of losing it. I know this because my grocery list included candy, chocolate chips and potato chips. I picked up Pepsi just to insure I hit all the stress eating food groups. What just might put me over the edge is the fact that I am actually seriously considering joining Alissa, Sarah and Marilee in their KAL of Andi Satterlund’s Arachne pullover. Yes it has stranded colorwork that makes my head ache and it’s a yoke sweater that always comes out ill-fitting on the first two or three attempts. I know I don’t have yarn in the right weight. When have I ever let obstacles stand in my way? Will I knit a successful wearable sweater? Probably not. Will I be frustrated knitting it? Of course. Will I love every minute of knitting along with these ladies? Damn sure of that! Who else is in? Come on. Misery loves company! Or maybe the more the merrier! You decide.

I’ve been thinking of everyone on the Coasts, wondering how things are really going. We are still pretty insular here in the hinterlands, one good thing about being so far away from everyone. Knitting is a great distresser, mostly. I may join you all with my Orkney, but I am still a good week away from starting. The knitting seems to be OK so far.🙂

  3. Yesterday John went to the grocery store and came home with oreos, kit kats, easy cheese, and two kinds of beer, so the emotional grocery shopping has hit Iowa too. Of course, his was more Elliot grandpa detox related. I think knitting a sweater with us is a great way to deal with stress. The time frame is long, you can knit an hour a day and finish it in time for Halloween. You can change the yarn weight so you feel like a knitting magician when you adapt to your needs. I’m kind of a KAL pusher.

I have my Splitz pretzels, Mt Dew, green grapes-at least 1 thing is healthy?, and leftover crunch bar hearts from VDay. I’m set!

  6. This sweater is definitely not my style! Maybe if the web was done as a fade? Longer and more loosely fitting? Definitely different colors. And I’ve got at least three sweaters ahead of that in the queue, including the one I’m working on now (Beth Brown-Reinsels’s Classic Gansey Cardigan, knitting for a friend who bought the yarn in Italy long ago, with her late husband – time to get it out of the closet!) – I’m up to the sleeve gussets. A reknit of one I made years ago and wore out, reusing its yarn. A colorwork sweater with relatively heavy yarn that’s been gifted me. Plus socks for sister, and Baltimore Ravens purple socks for nephew. No shortage of projects. But I hope you all have fun, and post the finished objects!

  7. Oh, yes – stress eating! Chocolate. Chocolate. Preferably dark, and lots of it! Maybe chips, tortilla or sweet potato, if I’m on a road trip – and I’m usually on a road trip – but I’ve gone to dry cereal not too sweet for the crunch and eat out of hand I crave when driving. Pepsi? Not my flavor – and if I’m going for caffeine, it’s in the chocolate! Aren’t we glad that stress foods aren’t flying off the shelves like hand sanitizer?!?

Praying for you and your families health.

. . .I just stocked up on Doritos, and root beer.
I had every intention to follow a sock-a-long this week. I even knit a swatch guage, but I just realized tonight that I don’t have enough yarn. I need to order some.

  10. The Coronavirus stuff is definitely causing stress, on top of normal life stuff. I don’t want to pile on that, but I really hope you knit along with us! As Sarah says, we have a really long time to get them done if needed 🙂 And it really is only a little bit of colorwork… Now that you’ve tackled it with your socks, this will be easy!
