I know it’s January and most people aren’t thinking about ice cream but if you’ve been around here for more than a minute you know I have a serious ice cream thing. It’s genetic. I come from generations of ice cream lovers on both sides of my family tree.
Yesterday N asked me at dinner if we had any ice cream in the freezer. Dumb question in this house honestly. I told him yes, there was fudge swirl. He casually mentioned that he was really feeling like strawberry. Smart kid combining healthy fruits with dairy for a well balanced dessert. I had to go out anyway because that Pokemon Go doesn’t play itself so I hit Stop & Shop, our local grocery store, the one I go to for emergency purchases not regular shopping. It’s always an experience to poke through their shelves. They get all the new stuff first. I won’t see any of it at my usual grocery store, Market Basket, for months if at all. Anyway, tucked between the Ben and Jerry’s and the Hood was Tillamook. That’s new! I saw the juicy fresh strawberries on the box and said why not!
When I got home N immediately filled himself a bowl and I grabbed a spoonful just for quality control purposes. Oh man! That is some good ice cream! It’s not Kimball’s level of amazing but no one is that good. Oh Kimball’s, why do you close all winter? I digress. The Tillamook tastes like real homemade strawberry ice cream. It’s white like a vanilla with chunks of strawberry, not a horrible dyed pink flavored with juice ice cream. It’s creamy and has just the right sweetness. Yummy!! If it’s available where you are buy some. You won’t be disappointed.
