Dear Parents With An Entitled Attitude: I arrived an hour early to stake out a seat with my son’s team. My son is an athlete just like your daughter. I want to enjoy the meet and watch the competition. I don’t appreciate you arriving as the meet begins, taking seats in my son’s teams section, standing repeatedly during races, whistling loudly and taking repeated selfies. You are an embarrassment to your daughter and to all the other parents who are here to watch their children.

I was once they moved. Evidently the third time they had to apologize was the wife’s limit. Or maybe their daughter only ran one event. N does 3, one of which is long jump and in order to see it we sit in the top seats. We still have no idea how he does but we feel supportive being able to see the run, jump and if it’s measured.

Well said. My son is a rugby player. Slightly different we stand in the middle of a muddy field but late parents with cameras and pushing to get a better view are still a pain ❤

My youngest daughter played soccer for over ten years. What annoyed me the most were the parents who screamed at their kids when they weren’t playing up to their expectations, yelled at the coach and the referees. After a few parents started using expletives they made a new rule where the coaches and refs could ban those parents from being within so many yards of the playing field. At one match a dad had to actually stand on the road. I loved it.

My husband and I are watching the Junior Bake off from BBC and we’re just commenting on how the British attitude is so different from Americans. I think too many parents lose sight of the goal. Winning is great, and documenting it is fine, but remember that everyone has someone special out there, and as you say sit down and shut up! Parents ruin so many events.

I agree. I’ve attended so many events where the parents are more concerned about filming the event than actually living the moment with their child. My kids have done lots of things and I’m glad to say I enjoyed them and I have no film to watch over and over but I do have wonderful memories.

When our youngest graduated from high school, the gentleman in front of us saved two seats for his wife and a sibling. A Random Woman came in and demanded – DEMANDED – that he let her and her son have those seats. He explained that he was handicapped and his wife had gone to park the car, but she still stood there, cursing him out. The wife showed up and asked Random Woman is she was having an affair with the husband.
“NO, of course not!”
“Well, then why do you want to sit next to him?”
RW stomped off in a huff.

I think it’s a symptom of our social media obsessed culture. They only care about themself and recording and sharing their experience that they never consider that other people exist.

Very true! When if the would just enjoy the moment and also consider others around them, they would probably have a much more positive experience all around. And so would everyone around them!

No. It was only us who were annoyed. Everyone else in our section was a high school kid with their nose in their phone waiting for their event to be called. It was as if we were being punked.

All the track meets and equestrian competitions I went to for my daughter… I hear you. Some people are just plain rude not just sporting competitions but everywhere. People are unbelievable.
