The photo lies. The yarn is green. I cannot capture the color in daylight. Or in the dark for that matter. It’s weird.
Anyway I’ve started another skein of yarn. Bulky (or maybe it’s chunky) yarn knits fast! I’m supposed to knit the length of the body from the underarms to 15 inches. I don’t know about that. I’m a wee bit worried about running out of yarn. There is a formulated plan in my head though. I shall finish this skein on the body and see where I’m at. Once I know how the body is at that point I’ll knit the sleeves. My arms aren’t long so I should save yarn based on what the pattern says. Then I’ll go back and finish the body. It should all work out fine. Well, that’s what I’m telling myself anyway.
Just once I’d like to knit a project without worrying about size, fit or running out of yarn. Maybe in my next life.
I’ve finished the arms a few times because of yarn amount worries; it is a great way to control yarn chicken stress. I also rely on a scale a lot to help me figure how many inches I knit for a given weight of yarn. Good luck!

Have you tried photographing your sweater on a gray or neutral background? I hope you have enough yarn. I’m sure you will figure out how to make it work, and besides, cropped sweaters are in!

Amen Sister! But the alternative, having too much left over but not enough to make anything is equally vexing.

Maybe learn to spin? 😄 Then you can just make more yarn if it looks like you might run short. 😉 It’s going to be a pretty sweater!

If you aren’t worred about running out of yarn are you even knitting a sweater? I thought that was part of the process.

It normally is my process with everything except socks.

Playing chicken with yarn is part of the process! However, like you I’d try and knit the body first. Perhaps then I’d wonder if the sleeves should be short or mid length rather than full length! Or maybe the cuffs could be a contrasts shade of new yarn ? Can you tell I’ve had to ‘manage’ some of my own projects? Actually one of my favourite ones was a baby cardigan – I bought red yarn when on holiday – ran right out when I’d done the back, fronts and sleeves – still had the button band to do! I purchased new, very similar yarn near home, but in navy blue – did the button band and added navy buttons – it looked lovely, even if I say it myself, and the baby’s mum loved it too!

You will make it! It really looks great so far 🙂 Yarn worries – they are part of the sweater-making process. The alternative is overbuying, which results in a stash of random leftover yarn, though.

Random leftover yarn – it fuels my knitting for the give-a-way basket, as contrast for fair isle, knit together with another few yarns, making a random bulky; maybe it edges another garment with a contrast of color and texture? It makes stripes in that hat or mitts or a cowl – or it goes into the pompom for the top of a hat. The list is endless – if you overbuy. But if you can’t afford another skein, and choose to under buy, hoping you can get away with it, always have a plan B! Maybe contrast neck and cuffs, maybe a few stripes somewhere, maybe a little color blocking, maybe some lace somewhere. In which case, you revert to the stash from over buying! The important part is to recognize that there are no rules. Do you want something longer or shorter? Want to use an entirely different contrasting texture? Try it – it’s all process, and the product will appear! Yes, you may need to learn a new technique, or push your preconceived ideas, or do some experimenting. It’s all good –

That is often how I do sweaters. The body length can vary a bit, but sleeves have to be right! I hope you have enough to make it exactly right!

Fingers crossed for you. I usually have enough yarn for myself b/c I don’t like full-length sleeves.
