The Places You’ll Go

Yesterday was the final cross country meet. N traveled with the team to NY, NY on Friday. They visited Times Square for dinner. It was a great way to cap the season.

The Husband and I got up at 5AM yesterday and drove to the Bronx to watch the race. Yes, 8+ hours in the car total for a 20 minute race. It’s what parents do I suppose. The kids did well. Everyone survived but sadly none of our kids made nationals.

So now I can say I’ve been to NY, NY. The Husband and I agree that next time we won’t take the car. Driving was crazy and parking would have been impossible had there not been a satellite parking lot and shuttle bus.

  1. NYC is my hometown, I’m glad you got a chance to visit, but all that driving!

  2. Very neat! Good that you got to visit, but yes, driving in NYC is kind of terrible. Glad N did well!

  3. You’re right – train is the way to go, especially as you clearly are within range of Boston. I generally drive to Danbury, CT and take the train from there, but then, I’m coming from the north. Driving in NYC is crazy, and parking? Forget it!

  4. I hope you at least were able to knit!

  5. Congratulations to N on the season. And kudos to you and your husband on great parenting!

  6. Sounds like an adventure! NYC is on my bucket list. The only time I was there was when my connecting flight was canceled because of a blizzard.

I loved running cross country in high school and competed in the Ohio state meet (not nationals). I wish my kids had the opportunity, but we don’t have cross country as a sport in Ireland.

Great season N! At least with all that car time, you had plenty of knitting time!!!

Catching up on your posts. Yay for sleeve body knitting! Yay for Thanksgiving. Yay for Quizzes. And yay for the boy having a good meet! I have no desire to visit NY, NY, and will never choose to go there. I would love to see the Statue of Liberty, but not enough to bear NY, NY.

Always, always, always drive to Amtrak and take the train it is so so easy. You can get a cab to wherever you have to go for not very much money. I never drive to NYC

Wow! You were brave! I never would drive to NYC. You can hop a train from loads of places outside the city, where parking is easier. Either CT or up the Hudson. But cool that you went and saw him run!

Wow, your son really has to travel for cross country. We only may have to travel for a few, preseason tournaments.
