I’ve continued working on the Hedera sock the last couple of days. The leg is done and I’m part way into the heel flap. This is a free pattern available on Knitty.com so I don’t mind talking about specifics of the pattern. I’ve really enjoyed knitting the lace. It took me some time to memorize the 4 rows but once I had the knitting has been quick. The heel flap has been another story. While it looks like most any other slipped stitch heel flap it isn’t. The row with the slips is the purl row which is different than any other pattern I’ve knit. I’ve had to really pay attention so that I slip when I should. I think if I was to knit this again I’d just do my usual heel flap.
Next up: buckle down and get this sock done. Soon!

It’s beautiful. I started a pair of socks last week with a very simple lace pattern. I allowed myself to relax and not count my stitches each row. When I reached the end of the leg beginning the heel flap, I discovered that I’d gained 10 stitches from the beginning. *sigh* The pattern is lovely, so I’ll go back and start again. I’m not in a big rush to start again. A series of unsuccessful projects has left a bad taste in my mouth for the moment. LOL At least my little puppy sweaters are coming out perfect. 😀

I have positioned my stitches so there are full pattern repeats (this pattern is 6 repeats for one round) on each needle (I knit my socks on dpns). It’s a little awkward having 2 needles with 2 repeats and 2 needles with 1 repeat but I know at the end of each round if I have the correct number of stitches and only have to tink back less than 2 rows to correct a mistake. Maybe this would work for your lace socks:)

I’ve never worked with dp needles. I kinda avoid them like the plague. They seem intimidating. I’ve always knit my socks on circular needles. May just be time to break down and try it.

Very pretty, but strange about the heel flap. I can think of no reason to do it backwards. Love your new kitchen cabinet!

I have found that it’s faster to slip stitches on the purl side, and have adopted that as my go to technique. The needle is already aimed in the right direction.
