Remembering To Be Grateful

The photo is historical in nature. I think all this yarn has been knit or is buried deeply in the stash.

Some days I need a good kick in the ass. I let the general annoyances of life get in the way of my feeling happy and grateful and it just ruins my overall well-being. Here is a little list of things I am grateful for in no particular order. Feel free to add the things you’re grateful for in the comments.

  • I am grateful for my quirky little family. As I’ve said before, we each march to the tune of our own kazoo. We are all unique individuals with varied interests who all love each other in spite of those wild quirks.
  • I am grateful for sheep and the yarn that comes from them. Without that yarn I’d be a mad woman stabbing people with my double pointed needles.
  • I am grateful for Spotify. Whatever my mood I can play songs that fit that mood. I can wallow, rage or mellow. Technology is good.
  • I am grateful for long (and I mean looooong) walks in the woods. The quiet sounds of nature are soothing to the soul. Even the acorns that try to hit me on the head are enjoyable, mostly when they miss.
  • I am grateful for my blog and the many people who I meet because of it. The world is a lot smaller place when you have friends on all continents. Hey, is there anyone out there from Antarctica? I think I’m still missing a friend from there. As I said, Technology is good.
  • I am grateful for all the helpers: police, fire, emts, doctors, nurses, soldiers and anyone else who is just there to help when we need it. Remember to look for the helpers!
  • I am grateful for ice cream and chocolate and peanut M&Ms and French fries and butternut squash. My life would be incomplete without indulgence of one kind or another.

I could go on and on but you get the idea. Sometimes we just have to remind ourselves so we remember. Don’t forget to include yours.

    It’s good to take a step back sometimes and think about all the things that make us happy. I hate whinging because it’s so negative and doesn’t actually do anything to bring relief; the issue is still there! I do share issues sometimes and get a different perspective but generally when I feel something isn’t right, I try to change things to gain some control or I just accept that it’s the way it is. I’m grateful for all sorts of things like family, friends, creative ability but most of all I’m grateful that I can be me, warts and all and if others don’t like me then that’s their issue! Just because I do things differently or have different beliefs, doesn’t make me wrong, or anyone else for that matter. I like my quirky knitting and my sense of humour, I like my positive outlook on life and ability to make the most of whatever’s going on. Now about that stash……nobody is going to tell me it’s too big because I need every colour that ever was because you know I’ll need it if I haven’t got it….

  2. I’m grateful for the internet, despite all of its many problems. With it I am able to satisfy some of my curiosity about so many subjects. With it I find so many interesting blogs, like yours, from such a diverse world.

  5. Family. Our little cat, the garden, knitting, and chocolate. Cups of tea (black, very weak, no sugar). Chocolate. Grandchildren. Chocolate. Oh, and did I mention chocolate?

  7. When it is raining, so I’m stuck walking laps at the track at the gym, I pick something to be grateful for each lap and think about the person or thing I’m grateful for. It makes trudging away at the gym slightly less awful.

  8. I’m grateful to have read your blog today, at a point where I am sooo done with having in laws to stay and was feeling very negative, I’m going to have a switch of thinking what I’m grateful for. Thanks for the prompt. 😀

    Dogs, knitting, sewing, singing, music, family, faith, health, discretionary income, food on the table, Mt Dew, chocolate cake, banana cake, Red Velvet cake, OK, cake! Ice cream, brownies, lasagna, pizza, OK, when did this just become food gratefulness?

    You are the best. I love reading your week all on Mondays, it is the way I start my week. And I also like the way the blog makes one feel connected to others all over the world. Also my daughter is a treasure. I spent a week with her picking apples, teaching her to can them into applesauce and puttering around her new house. When we are grateful for every day we wake up to a new day our life is so much richer. Thanks for the remind.
