Socks!

I spent my knitting time yesterday working on the second sock and I made it all the way into the heel. Well, a tiny way into the heel. I find that I am really craving sock knitting. I spent a few minutes poking through the stash just to see which skein I can cast on next. There were a few very good candidates but I’ll wait until this pair is done before I decide.

Do you ever crave certain projects? Do you find yourself planning what you’ll cast on next, even when you’ve got a couple of other projects on the needles?

  1. I like socks as they are quick, low on purl stitches and so useful when finished.

I wish I liked socks. I keep trying. I love sweaters so I knit a lot of them.

  3. I love my sweater knitting and I knit plain vanilla socks in lovely multi-coloured yarns more because I like to wear them than because I like to knit them. Not that I mind knitting them, I just find it easier to play with different stitch patterns on garments. Generally speaking, if I am keen to knit and wear an item it’s best if I keep my mind on it because thinking about something else will result in me losing momentum on the current project. My mind does wander into the ‘would be nice to do next’ realms occasionally though.

  4. I have never tried knitting socks. Not really on my list of things to do, but I do love seeing people knit them. Yours are so pretty. I love the colors and the striping. Of course I think about my next project and the next few projects, even though I have many in the works. At last count, I have 78 knitting and crochet projects in the waiting. I have not counted my cross stitch projects, way too many. But I do have 10 of them in the works and I still think about the ones I want to stitch next.

I actually needed a break.from socks after a couple of years of having socks constantly on one of my needles (mostly because I was teaching socks at a LYS). So what did I pick up? A fingering weight cowl (starshower) and a fingering weight sweater ( Spector)!

Shawls, I am always planning the next shawl! Even though I have tons of shawls I could wear on any given day. This year I am trying to crave sweaters, but making a successful sweater is harder for me. You have to do things like make it fit! LOL

  8. I am that way about socks too. I am not to the heel of my second sock but I already know what socks I’m making next. I wish I spent more time knitting socks.

  11. I definitely crave certain types of projects! Usually after a big complicated project I want to knit something quick and simple. And yes to planning the next project while I’m halfway through the current one!

They look wonderful. I am always planning a new project or two while knitting. It’s always a struggle not to cast on the new project and get involved with that before finishing the one I’m working on. It’s called masochistic knitting.

I used to always dream about what I’d knit next but funny enough, right now I’m really content with my current WIP’s, well two of them. One I really want to finish and get done; had lots of frogging and remodifying the plan for it.

Not only do I have cravings I have a list and I have an emoji to put next to the list depending on how close the project is to being next. I try to always have a pair of socks going because you never know when you could just use a small bit of sock knitting to make you feel better since it goes so fast and it’s relatively easy. But I’ve decided I want a very fancy heel on my next pair ( which I swear I will keep for myself ). I’ve poked around ravelry looking for some I actually saw on Pinterest. I think I have the Crescendo socks chosen. There’s about nine pages of instructions so I’m not sure whether that will actually happen or not!
