The Things We Do

I have the luxury of a morning at home alone today. I’ve already gotten a few things done and I’m getting ready to sit down and knit. I’ll have a good 2 hours before I’m needed to do anything so it will be some prime uninterrupted knitting time. I’ve made a little deal with myself. If I spend the 2 hours knitting the blanket I can use the remaining free knitting time today to cast on a pair of socks. I dug out these two skeins of Knit Picks Felici in goth kitty as an enticement. Knitting striped socks is my favorite and it goes so quickly. The colors are vastly different than the plain old blue baby blanket. So I’ve got a couple of things to do on Ravelry and then I’m sitting down to knit on the blanket for 2 hours. Once that’s been accomplished I’m casting on some new socks. Yay!

I’ve never knitted socks before (never even worn a pair of hand-knitted socks!!) but I’d like to give it a try some time this year. My daughter has trouble finding socks that fit her well because her feet are pretty large for a woman. Plus, there are such cool sock yarn choices!!

Do you have a favorite “go to” pattern for your socks?

    • Knitting socks is like magic! They fit so much better than store bought and are nice and warm. Everyone has their favorite way to knit socks. I do mine cuff down on double pointed needles. Some people like toe up magic loop. There are different toe and heel types. They fit differently so it’s another place to customize your fit. I knit my first pair well before Ravelry was a thing but I recommend checking out the sock patterns there. Winwick Mum has a pattern called Basic Socks which has a link to a tutorial showing all aspects of knitting her pattern. I’ve not knit her pattern but a tutorial is a great place to start. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. Good Luck!

  4. I tried knitting socks a few times, but I didn’t love it. Maybe I’ll give it another go, I’m sure to use socks more than the shawls I have been knitting,

    • I think if one makes and wears a pair of handknit socks it will improve the way they feel about knitting them:) I found them a bit annoying and fiddly in the beginning but once I felt like I knew what I was doing I found I enjoyed it more. Have you tried Cookie A’s Monkey Sock pattern? It is addictive to knit and they work up pretty fast. I highly recommend them!

I had a free morning as well. The deal I make with myself is 1 hour of housework, etc.= 1 hour of knitting and on snowy days also = 1 hour snoozle! I got so much done today, you would not believe!
