Discombobulated

I’ve been knitting a few rows here and there but having finished the second skein yet. I should have the blanket done by the time the baby arrives in April I hope.

I feel like I’ve been doing things all out of order lately. My preference is to blog in the evening and have it post in the middle of the night. That hasn’t been happening because I’m doing other things then. Sometimes even knitting. Everything is all thrown off, even my sleep. I’ve been staying awake too late and going back to sleep after I turn off the alarm clock. At 7 I jump out of bed in a panic. I feel like my internal clock is off. How does one set it back to right?

Looks like it’s really coming along! I’m sure you’ll have it finished in time, even if you have to do a mad rush to the finish line! 🙂

I am fortunate in that I have a clock that basically forces me to shut down if I stay up past my bed time. I can also take a 10 minute snoozle at the drop of a hat damn near anywhere! I know…it’s creepy.

  4. I know I hit times like that when my sleep pattern goes out of kilter. You definitely need to get to bed earlier to have any chance of getting up earlier. You could try forcing yourself into a new routine and do things you wouldn’t normally do before bed – have a cup of hot milk (I used to detest it, but now I find it delicious), listen to some classical music or a soothing audio book. If all else fails, get yourself a copy of Richard Burton reading Dylan Thomas’ poem “Under Milk Wood”, it will have you off to sleep in a jiffy.

Nice job so far! Make yourself stick to a time for bed. Your internal clock should reset.

  6. Great progress on the blanket.
If I go to bed when I’m not mentally tired, I just lay there thinking about anything and everything. I need to learn basic form of Occulmency (clearing the mind) that Professor Snape tried to teach Harry Potter but haven’t mastered that process. Not that anyone wants to read my mind, I just want to clear it.
I also have to end screen time about an hour before I intend to go to sleep. That helps some.

I read somewhere that if you leave your blinds open your body will reset to daybreak and sunset.

  8. Your blanket is lovely. I only set an alarm for monday volunteering at the barn. IT is so hard for me to get up before 8. All those years of shift work, I think I’m still getting caught up!!!!

My sleep is off too, but I blame it on Seattle. Truly it’s just my crazy ways, staying up too late.

I hope things set back to normal for you soon, but can I be honest and say, it made me feel happy to know that I’m not the only one that feels like she’s trying to reset? I am not only having trouble feeling organized and sleeping but now I’ve been unusually cold and sleeping with additional layers that literally make me feel kinda weird.

  13. The only way I get enough sleep is to have a regular routine. And stick to it if at all possible. I’m retired, so I rarely have a reason to have to be up at a certain time. That said, my entire day is better if I’m up at about the same time. Good luck getting back on track.

I have been feeling this way too. I am waking up super early and exhausted by dinner. I end up falling asleep on the couch. I am trying to rest when my body needs it, even if that means taking a break during the day. I am hoping at some point that will be enough to “reset” me.

I feel like this too so maybe it’s just the time of year. I know I sleep better when I’m physically tired so I try to have a long walk or do some exercise. Routine helps too; eat at the same time, get up at the same time. I’m caffeine free and that has definitely helped me to sleep better but I still get odd nights when my mind won’t shut up! When that happens I get up if I’m still tossing and turning after 20 minutes, make a cup of tea and pick up a book. When I’m tired I go back to bed.

Yes, this seems to be happening to me also. Maybe it’s just the time of year and the weather. The idea of leaving the curtains open is a good one. I’ve tried it and it does work. The other thing I do at night is have a special routine so my body knows it’s time to wind down. I do it at the same hours each night. A cup of chamomile tea while sitting quietly tucked up in my chair working to clear my mind and wind down. Then when I am in bed I do a progressive relaxation technique where I do deep breathing and relax the muscles working from my feet upwards. I don’t let my mind stray. I stay concentrated on my breath and releasing the tensions in my muscles. By the time I am finished my body is relaxed and my mind is calm enough to fall asleep.

My internal clock is a bit of a mess because of menopause….ugh! I used to sleep through a full nine hours and now I am wide awake sometime between 2:30 and 4:30 am! I am noticing thought that it does cycle, and the 2:30 bit doesn’t last more than about 5 days. I think if you stay strict with bed time that you eventually get back into your norm.

  18. Ugh – getting out of sync is no fun! Sometimes taking a day to just relax and be still can help reset. But you are a pretty busy lady, so that may not work for you right now! In other news, your baby blanket is looking great!

The blanket looks awesome, But they take forever. My advice is to have something small to finish so you don’t feel so overwhelmed by this gigantic project.
