Do you ever find yourself just winging your knitting? Back when I knit my Sockhead Hat I didn’t have the size needle called for in the pattern so I just went up a size (or 2) and kept going. It worked out ok. When I decided that I wanted a Sockhead Cowl I didn’t have any yarn that matched (in any way except weight) what I had used for the hat so I just grabbed something from the stash that felt neck huggingly soft. I then still didn’t have the correct size needle so I went up one size and cast on. So here I sit knitting according to the pattern on a needle size too large having given no consideration to gauge. Yes, I’m not just winging it. I’m seriously tempting the knitting gods to smite me. In order to avoid running out of yarn before I complete the ribbing I’m weighing the remaining yarn in an obsessive way and planning to save 30 grams for the ribbing. I think it will work. If not, I’ll just wing it.
