I’ve made almost no progress on the vest. Hopefully today will be better.
In the meantime let’s do another knitting/crocheting/crafting q & a. The last one was so much fun.
- Do you have a favorite crafting tool?

- Do you have a favorite designer that you’d like to recommend?
- Most people have a favorite color, do you find you use it more than other colors? Is there a color you avoid? Why?
- Have you experienced a crafting injury? If yes, what.
- I have an obsessive love for my metal Skacel size 1 1/2 double pointed needles. I use them all the time for socks. They’ve traveled everywhere with me. If I ever lose one I know I’ll cry.
- I listen to podcasts when I’m home alone. The tv is on if The Husband is home. I don’t care which one. I don’t knit in silence.
- I really like all of Martina Behm’s patterns. They easy to follow and the finished item is always lovely. If you haven’t seen them pop over to Ravelry.
- I am a lover of blue. Light, dark or in between. I do use it quite a bit but I try to branch out to purples and grays. I don’t do yellow. It doesn’t look good on me. For socks I’ll use any color, the brighter and wilder the better!
- I have had minor pain from overdoing. Once it was my shoulder and once my wrist. I take lots of breaks now and change position regularly.

My favourite crafting tools are my knitting needles and I have an enviable set of dpns and straights along with cable needles and stitch holders.
When I’m crafting I listen to music or watch tv depending on what I’m doing because if a project demands concentration then tv is a distraction, not to mention endless repeats of old shows during the day.
I don’t have a favourite modern designer but I like Kaffe Fassett (whom I met once years ago at the V and A in London) and I also like Alice Starmore and Jamie and Jessie Seaton. I knit a lot of traditional fairisle and vintage 40s stuff.
My favourite colour of the moment is a knitting yarn called guacomole by Drops design. It’s a sort of lime green with orange and red random bits and my customers love it. For myself I prefer turquoise but generally the more colour the better.
Crafting injuries? The sewing needle in the finger, jabbing a felting needle into my fingers. Nothing serious thankfully and I hate trying to knit with sticking plaster on a finger so I have invested in some ‘micropause’ which is a kind of tape which seals minor wounds and sticks very well to digits and repels wool nicely!
Back to my red and turquoise mittens on 2.75 dpns…..

I listen to audiobooks and podcasts when crafting. Thank heaven for my public library!
I love Cookie A.’s sock patterns and any and all of Hannah Fettig’s designs.
Fave colors lean toward blues and purples, along with pinks and taupes.
Injuries? None, unless you count sleep deprivation caused by the “just one more row” syndrome and/or the dreaded “OMG! (insert holiday/birthday) is tomorrow, how did this happen?????

Have you experienced a crafting injury? If yes, what. I am glad to say no needles sewn into my fingers, yet. Other than repetitive motion injuries, pin pricks, and paper cuts*, I’ve been lucky.

It never even occurred to me to think of black (or white) as colours when I did my answer! Monochrome clearly just doesn’t feature on my radar!

Do you have a favorite crafting tool? My spinning wheel has to be it right now. I also love addi nickel plated needles, and have a couple of 8 inch ones I use for socks.
Which do you prefer when you craft: listening to a podcast or music, watching something on tv or silence? Usually not silence. TV is my usual knitting companion.
Do you have a favorite designer that you’d like to recommend? I have always liked Heidi Kirrmaier’s sweaters, and now that I have knit one, I like them even more. Enough that I paid for several of her patterns. I don’t like to pay for patterns unless I am about to cast on.

I avoid brown and beige for me, though I will knit them for others. I just feel very blah when surrounded by brown and beige.
Have you experienced a crafting injury? If yes, what. Oh my, yes. Have I not told you this story? A very long time ago I was knitting a blanket on straight needles. I worked hard on it, all winter. Nearly done, I was headed to my grandmother’s for supper and to do some laundry. Of course, I brought the knitting along. I was loading the laundry in the back of my two door car, and the soap powder started to slip. I lunged for it, slipped and landed on the knitting. When I moved, I realized that I had stabbed myself with the knitting needle. I had a project bag with a nearly complete blanket pinned to my thigh. With much dramatic histrionics, I managed to get to my neighbor, and she called 911. The ambulance came, and there were more hysterics as they tried to CUT THE BLANKET OFF THE NEEDLE! I finally convinced them to cut the tip off the needle and slide the blanket off. They did, I rode to the hospital in the ambulance, where I had an x-ray, and they determined it was just a simple puncture wound, I did not hit the bone, and so they pulled it out and sent me home on crutches. Everyone thought it very funny, and it was afterwards, though I had a hard time getting the blanket back on track, I lost my favorite dress, I still had a lot of dirty laundry, I missed a dinner with my grandmother, and soap powder all over the back of my car!

What a terrible knitting injury. I can imagine you in agony trying to stop them ruining all your hard work. Thank goodness you had the wherewithal to give them clear instructions.

Lol not so sure how clear I was… they were aluminum needles, they had to get out these huge loppers. But it stopped me crying and carrying on!

Right now my favorite crafting tool is my Tibetan spindle. I prefer to listen to tv when knitting. But for spinning I prefer silence. Just me the fiber, spindle, and Yarn Rascal. My favorite designer is Kate Davies. Blues and purples are my favorite colors. Reds are not for me. Having had a mastectomy I have to be careful how long I knit or spin. Both irritate my compromised lymph system on the left side and if I am not careful in taking breaks and doing arm exercises I wind up with a painful lump of fluid a little larger than the size of a golf ball in the arm pit of my left arm. Then I need to stop and do arm exercises and lymph massage and wear a special tight sleeve on my arm until the swelling goes down. It often takes days for the swelling to disappear and during that time I can’t knit or spin.

Hmm, another good set of questions to ponder.
1. Favourite tools are a notebook and pen or pencil, to record stitch counts and remind me of projects I’ve made and some that didn’t get too far.
2. Listening to audiobooks or, when I need to use my brain, silence.

4. I love colour full stop. My least favourite is orange because I don’t look good in it, but I can still knit with it. I find the specific qualities of the yarn I’m using have an effect on how the happy I am with any particular colour. That said, I predominantly knit with blues, greys, pinks and purples… and reds… and occasionally greens…
5. Crafting injuries? No thanks! I get all the injuries I need from falling off my bicycle!

I too am in love with pencils all over again. writing in pen is just as mess on my calendar as things seem to be changing all the time. Love me a number 2 pencil with a nice eraser!
