Thank you for the get well wishes. I am feeling more human and no one else has come down with it. Maybe it was something I ate. I’m still limiting myself to Jello and ginger ale for now.

I didn’t knit at all on Friday. This is my progress on the cowl as of Thursday evening. The needle, a size bigger than the pattern calls for, is driving me crazy. It’s an old Boye and I’ve tried everything to get it to relax. It isn’t happening. When I get enough rows knit it will be more cooperative.

Did you catch the part about the needle being a size larger than the pattern calls for? I hope it doesn’t bite me on the ass but I don’t have the recommended size or the size smaller. It’s a cowl, a teeny bit bigger/looser shouldn’t be a big problem. If I’m in denial don’t tell me.

This is how the cowl looked Thursday evening when it was time to knit. I had messed up the corrugated rib and had to tink back a row and a half. So things haven’t been going smoothly so far but I’m back on track.

I like the colours! I never think size is THAT important in a cowl๐Ÿ˜‚

nah! I don’t think you’re in denial as long as you’re ok with it being a smidge bigger! ๐Ÿ˜Š feel better soon

You’re fine! Cowls are meant to be a bit loose anyway right? I don’t like mine too tight anyway ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you feel better

  4. Another vote here for needle size being fine. One of my friends once ironed a circular that refused to uncurl, but I wouldn’t recommend that ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope you’re feeling 100% soon.

Hope the tummy is on the mend, glad no one else got it, so it couldn’t morph and give you a second go!๐Ÿ˜ณ Yes, those needles should be fine, especially if you have plenty of yarn.

I agree with all so far – looser cowl is fine – especially if there is corrugated ribbing involved! As for the Boye needles – oh, that drives me nuts. Cables have come a long way, haven’t they? If you have the tools, you could try clamping it to heat proof surface, stretched out straight, and then hitting it with hot air from a hair dryer. Not sure it will work, but it is better than fighting it.

So glad you are feeling better! Last year when I had a nasty bout of something, the doc recommended Gatorade (not the sugar free kind) with added table salt. I gagged it down and it did help the dehydration. If this goes on, you might think about it.

Oh boy oh Boye – I wish you lots of luck and patience with that cable. I had a set of Boye interchangeables, my first set of circular needles, and I recall doing everything possible to get the cable to relax, including popping it into boiling water (that helped). I think you’ll be fine with the larger needle size – it’s a cowl, after all, how specifically fitted does it need to be? Worst case scenario is that it’s too loose, but you could use a pin or sew some gathers to make it more fitted. I hope you continue feeling better & that the knitting goes a bit better!

Hope you are continuing to mend. If you need a needle, hit me up! I have a bsit bag full of addiโ€™s and wood circs I never use! I only use Knitterโ€™s Pride at this point.

  10. It will be fine! I hate it when the cable is all stiff and extra loopy like that and nothing will relax it! You are right, a little more weight on it should help. Glad you are feeling better and hope it continues ๐Ÿ™‚

Glad you’re feeling better now. My Flax looks somewhat like a mess but I need to change to a longer cable so thank goodness it’s just that.
