We are having a walloping of snow today and there is no school! H is going to work from home. That means I’m free to fill my day as I wish* with no obligations to go anywhere. The plan is to knit. I’ve reached the point in the sock where it is time to start the heel flap. That means there is about a quarter of the project left to finish and then I can freely cast on something new.
The plan is to start Cowl Latvian Blooms with the leftover Cascade Heritage yarn in black plum and primavera that I used in my Plaid is the New Fad. I weighed the yarn and there is plenty, hopefully. I’m really looking forward to knitting this even though the stranded colorwork annoys me a little. I’m going to try to prevent the yarn from twisting as I go along. We’ll have to see if I can form a plan that works.
* I’ll still have to shovel, cook dinner and wash dishes.

I love a snow day! We aren’t getting much snow here but the temps are so dangerously low, that’s our excuse to stay home and make pretty things!

Always hold the background color higher than the motif color. Or in two handed, motif in left, background in right. I knit with both in my right hand so I strand the background color closer to my knuckle and the motif closer to finger tip. It works for me with the help of my right thumb. If you do these tricks the yarn should never twist unless you do it on purpose to catch floats. If you need more explanation I can have Hubster videotape me knitting two color.

That cowl looks gorgeous. I’m about to start a fair isle pullover for The Management so I probably need a small project like that to remind me how it’s done. Or that’s my excuse 😉

Hot tip on twisting yarns – salad spinner. It will twist easily to undo tangles.

I have that same cowl pattern queued up and will try a three-color variation with yarn purchased last year in London. Can’t wait to see how yours turns out!
