FO Friday: Sparkles Edition

Reyna is done and blocked! What a fun knit! It’s really perfect for variegated yarn, something that can’t be said about a lot of patterns. I followed the pattern as written and blocked it fairly aggressively. The size is nice for a single skein shawl.

The pattern is Reyna by Noora Laivola. The yarn is Miss Babs Estrellita in across the universe, a gift from my knitting neighbor. The pattern is wonderfully written and easy to remember. There is a logic to it that I found very pleasing. The yarn is simply lovely. The colors are vibrant and the sparkle is an extra pop. I would definitely knit this shawl again and use this yarn again.

I must get some blocking wires. I’ve put buying them off for years. I’d like a more finished looking blocking. The edges of my shawls are scalloped because of the pin placement and shrinkage as the shawl dries. Do you have blocking wires? Which type do you recommend?

Beautiful! I have blocking wires and I love them. I got mine from KnitPicks. They really do make a huge difference in the finished piece. Definitely worth the investment.

I have some and love them but haven’t a clue what kind they are. As much knitting as you do, you will definitely be glad you got them!

Beautiful shawl and yarn! I must try this pattern – it’s been on my radar for awhile. I got my blocking wires from the yarn store in Burlington. I’m not sure what brand they are. You might want to call and see if they have them in stock, because I think most everything in the store is on sale right now (but I could be wrong about that). I’ve only used mine a few times so far, but they work wonders! Someone told me to make sure to wipe the wires down with a soapy paper towel and then dry them before using them as they have an oily finish on them.

The shawl is very pretty, love the pattern. I don’t have any blocking wires either. I have been looking at the ones that look like hair picks to me ( that is the link :P.

  12. Your shawl got just beautiful! You are right – it is a great pattern for the yarn. Lovely!
I have blocking wires from KnitPicks, as I know an earlier commenter also has. They work very well! I find they help me keep whatever I’m blocking straight, and they also make it easier to be aggressive with lace blocking. You can pull on a whole side or section at the same time, instead of pin by pin!

That pattern has been in my queue for ages. Yours is beautiful! If you want to save a few bucks, get welding rods (wire weight, not really rods). My husband bought me a package of them (~20-25 in a package) and they work perfectly.

Absolutely yes on the wires. Can’t remember the brand but I bought mine from Leslie Soloman(sp)? Love the shawl!
