Christmas Decorating

As I said yesterday I got the decorations up. N took care of the tree. So the house is ready for Christmas. You’ll notice that the bottom of the tree is missing a couple of rounds of lights. A certain poodle is overly interested in the tree and likes to get very close and poke things with his nose. We thought it best to keep the fabric/plastic ornaments at the bottom and skip the lights in that area. Myles will be 3 years old in the spring. Maybe by the time he’s 5 he’ll be less interested in the tree.

I got this a year or two ago. I had planned to put it on the front door but I have a wreath there so it’s just sitting on the end table. I like it because it’s not just the traditional red and green.

This is the adoption ornament we got the year N arrived. It’s a favorite for sure.

This was a gift years ago, well before I was married. Everyone else is a bit afraid of him. I like to put him out just to mess with them.

Do you have special decorations you put out every year? Which is your favorite?

I have a bit of garland from my first tree (85 years old now) and have it encased in a clear globe. My mother would always put the garland on our tree first and tell me the same story every year.

I have an elf that I remember from when I was 2 or 3. Everyone else says it’s ugly, but I love it!

I love your decorations! Especially that angel that looks like he enjoys a good rough and tumble life!

I have a big old mercury glass ball that my grandmother always hung in the front hall. I haven’t found a good place to hang it yet – we are more rough and tumble (like your angel!) than she was, and I don’t want to break it. I also have her Scandinavian white paper angel mobile, which I do hang and love to have watching over us.

Is that snow outside your window? Lovely! My parents have a yellow satin bauble that for some reason their much-loved Great Dane used to go to each year; it’s bedraggled, I think he used to lick or chew it. 31 years or so after he died it still goes on the tree each year.

We like to buy a tree ornament from our holiday destinations. It’s lovely putting the tree up outtakes an age!
The decoration from Cuba was a challenge and ended up being a large breasted lady fridge magnet doctored to hang on the tree 😂.

I put out all that we have. My mum used to put up a tree but she got rid of her old artificial and divided up the ornaments equally between me and my brother. Luckily with this swap I’ve participated in I’m getting a few more decorations for Christmas.

A new wooden sign I got last year that a friend made. I will try to get a pic of it and post it next week.

When I was growing up, my mom gave me an ornament project to do each year so the majority of my decorations are ones I’ve made. The others are from students.

We have lots of favourites to be honest. This year we decided to chuck out all the crappy decorations, the cheap old ones and just stick with our tasteful ones. Each year we have come out and bought an expensive ornament or two each for the tree. Over they years that collection has grown and although I have a few favourites, but the one I bought to remember Lilu by is now number one favourite. She loved Christmas so now her memory will be on the tree each year. You broken/fallen angel is fantastic, so different, and quite cool.

Your angel made me laugh 😊 we don’t have many decorations at my house, because I’m so far from where my parents live and all the good ones I used to have stayed with them

That angel is slightly creepy looking! Some of my favorite decorations are the knitted stocking that my mom made. It goes up every year (even though it never gets filled anymore 😦 ). Also some of the old fashioned glass ornaments – one from my grandmother’s tree and one from my mom’s tree.
