Give And Take

The entire time I wound these wee balls of yarn for Aeque by Hilary Smith Callis I told myself in a stern voice in my head that I had to finish the entrelac hat and get a dent in the evil stocking before I cast on. I was so  tough on myself. Almost to the point of unburying the evil stocking from its locked coffin, but not quite. As I lined the little balls up on the table I couldn’t decide which order they should go in. The yarn is Loopy Hues in nerves of steel. I’m pretty sure I’ve got them in the correct order but I’m not positive about the two on the left. Is the purple gray (the second one) darker than the dark gray one (the first one)? I want to knit these in a gradient kind of way. I suppose if I don’t know which one to start with it will keep me from casting on. Which one do you think is the darkest one?

To me, it looks like you have them in the right order:) Maybe I shouldn’t say that though so the entrelac and stocking get some action🤣

It looks like the right way, but you could start with ball two as that is more purple than grey, then working to the grey tones (which is what I would do). Looking forward to seeing it.

I think they are in order, maybe the last gray and purple on the left are nearly the same intensity, so you could go either way? Knit 10 rounds on the evil stocking then you can cast on….see I’m trying to spur you on!

Tough call. I agree that the two far left could be reversed if you want but it looks good to me.

It looks like they’re in the right order. The second one from the left is a “brighter” hue than the others (much less gray in that ball of purple).

  8. I’ve heard that photographing them in black and white shows up the light/darkness more clearly if you’re really undecided.

I second the black and white tip. But the difference in them isn’t light/dark, it’s hue/color. So the suggestions of purple to gray is an option.
