Some Days

Some days it isn’t worth getting out of bed.

See yesterday there was a whole plan to get up early and go out to breakfast before the lacrosse game. Well the phone rang before we had gotten up. The Husband had to go into work because the person who was supposed to work didn’t show up and no one else could be reached by phone. Fortunately he turned up having overslept, again. We missed out on our breakfast out but The Husband brought home muffins which were very tasty.

Then I thought I may as well make some banana bread (link to my mother’s recipe-it’s very good) with the bananas that have been sitting on the counter for a week. Tell me why when there are no bananas everyone asks “why are there no bananas?” and when I buy bananas they don’t get eaten? Another of life’s mysteries I guess. Anyway there were 9 bananas so I thought I’d make three loaves and freeze some. I got one loaf into the oven when there was a kitchen catastrophe and the banana mixture ended up down the cabinets and all over the floor. Good grief.

On the brightside (because if I only looked at the downside I’d never get out of bed) there is a loaf of banana bread which everyone will eat and my counter is now free of the rotting bananas. I have one mostly clean outer cabinet door and the kitchen trash barrel is empty. I did salvage some time and knit quietly in an empty house. Sanity, such that it is, restored.

Is there anything worse than those kitchen catastrophes?! Do try and focus on the bright side, though!

So I’m not the only one with the kitchen catastrophes. Mine involves replacing a lightbulb near the ceiling slipping falling off of the counter and hitting front and back and landing on the floor breaking several ribs the day before I was leaving for a three week trip to France. It’s been a month now so the ribs are mostly healed. But do you think my husband could have replaced the lightbulb before I got back? Why on earth would he do that. Lol Lesson learned; get a proper ladder.

sounds like a rough kind of day. When we used to spill something in the kitchen, my mother would say “oh drat, now there will be a clean spot” and that is all I could think of when you said a kitchen catastrophe. A large clean spot. 🙂 I hope today is better and that you got to have some banana bread for breakfast. And that your husband learns to stop answering the phone on his days off. 🙂

Your banana bread looks good! My husband and tween won’t eat a banana if it starts getting brown spots. *rolls eyes*

  8. I love making (and eating) banana bread, mostly because we never seem to be able to eat the bananas before they start spotting – you’re right to point out that banana mystery. Wonderful bake!

Too bad the early morning phone call messed up your breakfast plans. That banana bread looks perfect! That must have been some catastrophe you had in the kitchen – too bad, but at least you did get one good loaf of banana bread out of the ordeal.
