A Solution To Part Of The Problem

I have complained endlessly about my kitchen. I complain here and in real life. My kitchen is vintage 1948 with late 1990’s updates hold the dishwasher. When The Husband was on vacation, staycation really, I put him to work. I have been eyeing these shelves at Ikea for a couple of years. When we went to Ikea to buy a new mattress on tax-free weekend I put the shelves into the basket and told him we’d figure out how to hang them later. Well that involved some research and a little luck. We have plaster and lathe walls in our house. If you’ve ever had plaster and lathe walls you understand. If not, lucky you! Shelves have to be screwed into studs and finding studs behind plaster and lathe is a challenge. We tried all the usual methods like looking for nails in the baseboard moulding to running a strong magnet across the wall to find nails to drilling tiny test holes along the bottom of the wall. We narrowed the area down to maybe 2 inches and just took a chance and banged a nail into the suspected spot. BINGO! We found it. The Husband spent 3 days getting to this point. It took less than an hour to actually hang the shelves and I love them. The extra storage has allowed me to clear some space on the table and counter. I told him I’d like another shelf over the stove. He just shook his head and walked away.
