Revisiting A WIP

I have a bit of knitting time to kill before I start my Camp Loopy project so I thought I would be a responsible knitter and pick through the WIP pile and find a project that really deserves to be knit. I decided on the Steampunkery Socks. These have been in the WIP pile for a while. I bought the kit in 2011 and finally cast on the first time April 2013. I have spent the last few days working on the first sock. Knitting this sock reminds me of a time I stopped in a store in Canada. When we lived in Maine we often went to Canada and this one time we stopped at a tiny convenience store in the middle of nowhere. I entered the store to make a simple purchase but quickly found myself lost. It seems the store was oddly laid out and the only person working there didn’t speak English. All I wanted was tampons but trying to explain with hand gestures wasn’t really appropriate. I ended up at a different store a few miles down the road. Well this pattern seems to be in some other language than knitting. I speak knitting and I speak sock but this pattern isn’t in either of those. I am currently on my 9th 10th, yes, ninth tenth attempt at getting beyond row 6 of the chart. I have read though all the helpful notes and forum posts on Ravelry. I have searched the internet for blog posts, youtube and really anything that can help me. The Bavarian twisted stitches and the multiple kinds of crossed stitches have me at a loss. I think I’ll take it to knit night and see what they think. I’m afraid I may have to just drive down the road and find another pattern…
