WIP Wednesday: Fraternal

I knew the socks I knit with this yarn would be fraternal no matter what I did. You see when I bought the yarn on clearance there were only 2 skeins left and I just loved the colors. I broke a major knitting rule though. I bought skeins with different lot numbers. I could even see that they were different. But I didn’t care and I still don’t. They are just socks after all and socks should be fun and not quite matching socks wear just as well as matching ones. When I picked out this pattern I was drawn to it partly because it has you create two different socks, one where the stitches cross to the left and one where they cross to the right. i figured if the socks weren’t going to match color wise having them not match stitch wise would be just icing on the cake so to speak.

The pattern is Down The Rabbit-Hole by Purrlescent. The yarn is Loops & Threads Luxury Sock in balloons. Sorry about the out of focus phone photo. I am out of batteries for my camera and forgot to pick them up when I was at the store yesterday. Actually we’re out of a lot of things at this point and I keep forgetting to make a list.

  4. They are going to be a gorgeous pair of socks. And who cares if they aren’t identical, if you wanted perfectly matching you could have bought some from the store, yours will be so much better 🙂

Now go make that shopping list lol

I think fraternal socks are A-OK. Most of my socks are, anyway. :-p The colors in these are WILD.

I love that yarn. It’s going to be a happy pair of socks regardless of how “twinsie” it is. Besides, I’m still not convinced I know how to read properly “where” a color change occurs to start a second sock at the same point in a yarn colorway. However I’m here to document your influence 🙂 After your last post, I have cast on the same pattern for the first time. This will be my fourth pair of socks if it all works out.

I never thought about dye lots on striped socks resulting in different stripe orders. How interesting. But I agree – the yarn is just too nice to pass up.

This color way is so cool. I love it every time you post about it. I concur with you. I don’t know why some knitters are obsessed with matching, handknit socks! Like really? I roll my eyes.

I completely agree with different socks and shades, besides having odd socks means if one dies 😦 you can always pair the remainder with a different 🙂 or create a brand new friend specially!
