The Knits You Long For

It was so much fun yesterday reading about what everyone wears to keep them warm on cold days. Now I have another question. As knitters we can choose to knit whatever we want in whatever yarn (budgets allowing of course) we want. So I want to know what do you wish you had in your wardrobe and what yarn would you knit it in? I have a few things I’d like but for various reasons I just haven’t knit them, yet.

H in her Rogue

Ages ago, pre-Ravelry in the dark ages of blogging there was a KAL for the Everyday Cardigan. I watched as a bunch of these were knit in all shades of Peace Fleece. I went so far as to buy the pattern and read it over but I never did buy the yarn. Oh now there are kits available! It is for sure on my one day list and while I may not use Peace Fleece I would really like to make some sweater with it. While we’re talking about sweaters, I’d also like to knit a Rogue for myself. I knit one for H a few years back and it was a very satisfying pattern to knit. The sweater itself turned out beautifully. I would knit it in a heathered wool, probably Cascade 220 since I love that yarn. In the other knits area I’d like some knee socks. I know I say that over and over again but I really do want them. I want to wear them on a brisk fall day with a skirt. There are so many fantastic patterns: Vibbles Kneesocks, Q, and of course Clessidra. I know once I knit a pair I will go on a jag and knit a bunch and that would be a good thing. So how about you, what knits do you wish for?

I would love to knit a sweater for myself…I don’t know which one. I never allowed myself (costs) to think much about it so I haven’t ever really seriously looked at patterns. I have a weird body shape and size so it would require a lot of work altering a pattern…some day though, someday. But for real, right now, I’m looking at making a hat. One with color work (I saw a fabulous one while watching the news during the recent snow storm). I don’t typically wear hats but I will give it a try! I also want to try something with beads. I love your beadiuful (< see what I did there? haha, I'm in a goofy mood today) socks that you're knitting…just gorgeous and inspiring!

I’d love to knit a Herbert Niebling lace shawl. His stuff is beautiful but I don’t know if I could decipher the pattern.
I also wish I was brave enough to steek a sweater. Time will tell…maybe someday.
H’s Rogue is so pretty. I love the cable-work. 🙂

I want some beaded underpants!! No, just kidding! I’ve been wanting to knit some gloves (with fingers!), lots of beautiful lace shawls, and yes, someday a SWEATER!

I want to knit myself a cardigan of some sort. Or a sweater. I’ve made a sweater for me…but it was out of heavy, bulky yarn. I also made it when we were still living in Wisconsin and such things as a heavy, bulky-weight sweater were needed. Out here in “northern” California, not so much. So, something lighter, I think 🙂

That is a terrific green and the cables are great. I really wish for a fine black sweater with little white polka dots. However, I do cringe a bit at the idea of knitting a garment in fingering yarn.

Answering both questions on one post. Knits I wear all the time? My Keefely Mittens. http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisknits/6614714547/ Other than that I grab one of many shawls in my cabinet. During football season it was the 1st sweater I ever made, but now that basketball is in session it’s too hot to wear a wool sweater inside any of our high school stadiums! Knits I long for? All of them!!!! LOL.

  8. I would love to knit one of the ‘wedding ring shawls’ that used to be knitted in Scotland. (So called because they could be pulled through a wedding ring) It would take far more time than I could justify for something with no real purpose – but wouldn’t it be nice?

I think a sweater for me would be best. But I’m terrible at knitting for myself. I love cables but cables don’t suit my body! So a fitted, plain cotton sweater would be ideal…
