I finally finished my socks! To be honest this isn’t the first attempt at knitting something with this yarn. I had started a sock eons ago and it didn’t get very far before I just dumped the whole thing into a plastic bag and placed it back into the stash. See the yarn is a Knit Picks Sock Blank that was gifted to me by Beth years ago. I wanted to try dyeing some yarn and knew that KoolAid was the perfect place to start so I dumped a ton of it into some water in my crockpot and threw in the blank. Once the dye had been absorbed by the yarn I let it dry. I knew I wouldn’t want to knit from the blank. I’d done that and not enjoyed it once before so I wound it into a couple of balls. It was at that point I noticed the smell. Have you ever smelled grape KoolAid? Have you ever smelled 10 packages of unsweetened grape KoolAid? It was rather strong. That’s why I didn’t knit the socks the first go around. I couldn’t take the smell. I vacillated between being hungry and nauseous. Not the feelings I like when knitting. Now I’m happy to say that I have not only dyed the yarn myself but I have managed to knit the socks and the overwhelming grape smell is gone. I hope it doesn’t return when I wash them.
