Proving My Sanity

If insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting  different results I am going to try to break that cycle. I have knit and tinked the same two rows of nearly 250 stitches twice. I just reknit the first of the two rows and am going to count and make sure I haven’t missed anything. I know I went back and fixed an issue the first time but I’m thinking I made another mistake and just didn’t notice. Fortunately the Stonehedge Fiber Mill Shepherd’s Wool Worsted yarn is up to the abuse and I love the Arroyo shawl enough to keep going. If you don’t hear from me I’ll be knitting those same two rows until I get them right.

Ergh. I had a similar situation with 315 stitch-long rows of colourwork a couple of weeks ago, just could not seem to get it right. Perseverance pays off in the end though, so good luck!

one thing I sometimes do when working on long tricky things is place stitch markers every pattern repeat, so I can stop and count as I go, and know right away if I did something wrong. Also, life lines – once you know you get that row right, take a LOOOOONG piece of string or thread (I often use unwaxed dentral floss) and thread it through, under your knitting needles. Just let it hang. Keep knitting, being sure not to catch it. In this way, if you do make a mistake and have to rip, you can just pull out your knitting. When you get back to the floss, it will be holding live stitches that were worked correctly, so you can just pick them up and go forward. Saves lots of time. Obviously, if it is a tricky pattern, you will want to move the floss up regularly, so you don’t have to rip too far. Just make sure the row you save is one that was worked correctly. 🙂

and good luck – you know this will be worth it in the end. 🙂

Oh boy! So sorry you had to go through all that. If I went had to do that, I’d frog it all and start over as there is probably something I’m missing.

  6. Urgh it never happens with the short 20 stitch rows does it? Always the long or complicated ones! Hope you’re able to get it right or bodge it 😉

I had a similar problem when I started the Evenstar. No where near as many stitches, thank goodness. Sometimes I have to put things in time out and give it another try the next day. Good luck. 🙂

I hope the insanity has ended … that you have figured it out and were able to move ahead …. sheesh … the things we do in the holiest of hells in order to create. Such is life.
