Yesterday I went to the store closing sale of my most favorite LYS. They opened earlier than I could get there so things were in full swing when I arrived. The store was humming with activity. There wasn’t an inch of space to stand in and moving through the store was difficult. I went with a plan: buy one skein of yarn as a remembrance but it must be something I’d never knit with before. The path to the sock yarn was packed tight with shoppers but I did finally make my way there and looked at what was available. I spotted a pretty skien, pick it up and when I turned I realized that I was now standing in the checkout line. Yes, the line stretched through the store. I talked with the women in line. We were all saddened and shocked to hear that the store was closing. The wait was about 30-45 minutes. While waiting I was able to speak with the owner and employees I’ve known for many years. When my turn at the cash register arrived I paid and walked out the door. I am very pleased to see that the shop is going out with a bang and not a whimper.
That’s a beautiful skein of yarn to remember them by.

I can attest to the greatness of that yarn….I’m currently knitting socks with it (different color). It’s a dream to knit with 🙂

Very pretty yarn with a great blend of colors. I’ve never knit with that yarn either. A great way to remember your favorite LYS.

You found a great skein, even if by accident!

You restrained yourself with one skein!!! Are you made of steel or something? Iron Woman? LOL. It’s very pretty, very colonial.

Beautiful yarn! Too bad that your LYS didn’t survive…it’s hard to see small businesses close…

It’s always sad when local stores go out of business, but at least you now have something pretty to remember them by!

Sounds like the shop had many many supporters (or people who just wanted cheap yarn haha). You picked a good color. My LYS has that yarn, but I haven’t purchased it yet. I keep meaning to. I can’t wait to see what you make.

I’m impressed with your yarn discipline on an emotional day of losing your favorite lys. I hope you find another spot to replace it. Enjoy your knit, it’s lovely yarn.

I’m sad just reading about the closing, I cannot even imagine how depressing it must have been to be there on the last day. But I love your tribute, it is very fitting and sweet.
