N has a new hobby. He has become ever so slightly obsessed with origami. He has been folding lots of things and even went to a class at the library. His current obsession is paper cranes. He intends to fold 1000. Until he is done or has moved on to something else I suspect our flat surfaces will look like this.
The other day I went to see if the flowers on the south side of the house had started to open yet. I was so pleased to see that they had. There is no more sure sign of spring than daffodils. Now if we could get a few warm days in a row.
I have not been very good lately about keeping up with my usual podcasts. I don’t seem to spend as much time with my ipod as I used to and I have been completely remiss about keeping up with what’s new out there. Well the other day I watched Snappy Stitches (an excellent video cast) and she mentioned the Must Stash Podcast. I had a bit of time to download the few episodes that are out and watch them. I really enjoyed them. The hostesses are pleasant and they churn out finished objects so quickly. I look forward to their next episode and highly recommend you give them a try.
And finally yesterday Pumpkin said she had a hard time trying to picture how large a container it would take to hold $400 in pennies. Well it is a plastic 5 gallon water bottle I’ve had for nearly 30 years. I took a really lousy photo of it with a yardstick to give you an idea of how tall it is. The junk behind it is my UFO pile. Oops, probably shouldn’t have mentioned that.

Oh wow! I’m even more impressed after seeing the photo of the pennies! Thanks for taking the time to show me, and the little cows on the yardstick are adorable! I think that folding 1000 cranes is considered lucky, isn’t it? Hopefully it won’t get weird like my sister’s origami phase where she folded countless numbers of origami nuns in lots of different sizes (including one 3 feet tall), then she started writing plays about them.

Origami is a great obsession to have – go N! They look so cheerful lined up on your windowsill. I’ve seen a really cool origami crane mobile – maybe some of those cranes can take flight and make a mobile (???).
What??? Your UFO pile can fit behind a 5 gallon water jug? I’m so impressed! 🙂

We’ve got a penny, gallon container too! N can thread thread through the cranes so they’ll hang from somewhere. At Japantown, they made crane ornaments to hang on trees.

I remember doing Origami as a kid, and even as an adult! Have him string them on a thread and hang them, that way they are not in the way and make a cool room decoration.
