WIP Wednesday: Aliens

By way of distraction I am going to tell you a little story. Since N was small he has requested things from the grocery store that leave me wondering when he became a foodie. Just so you understand, he isn’t with me at the time of the request. He’ll ask me to add something to my list for next time. One week it was a coconut. Opening that was interesting since we don’t have a machete. After saying no to a durian, I had to say yes to a pomegranate. What an interesting fruit. I’ve had the juice and like it but never had cut one open and poked around inside. Needless to say N loved it and now it is a regular on the grocery list. Can you suggest an out of the ordinary fruit for him to try?

I guess I have to show you the sock now. Little progress has been made. Blame the frogs. The yarn is Lion Brand SockEase in color 203. The pattern is the one from my brain knit over 68 stitches.

Ah pomegranates are definitely one of my favorite fruits, they are fun but boy can you make a huge mess too. It is probably more of a summer fruit but Carambola (star fruit) is super fun too.

I bought a pomegranate for the first time last week and it was nothing more than a pain in the butt. But props to him for loving it!

Star fruit is nice, as are kiwis. If you could get your hands on a prickly pear that could be fun to try. An easier one to find and prepare is papaya. You can scrape out the seeds with a spoon and eat the flesh.

Dragon fruit – it looks awesome and the flavour is pretty subtle 😉 Also, star fruit is good.

It’s so pretty inside! N is quite adventurous with his food! I also recommend a prickly pear, or how about some of those miniature bananas (not sure what their real name is). They are so cute and much sweeter than the bananas we usually eat – maybe you could have a taste comparison.

It’s great that your guy has such an adventurous attitude towards food! I wouldn’t have even known to ask for a durian- didn’t know what it was until I linked over from your page.

That’s so funny! My son makes grocery store requests, too, but he likes to be with me and he’s not nearly as adventurous. I know they aren’t terribly exotic, but we like mangos and plantains at my house. And we have a machete, lol! My husband talks about lots of fruits that he ate growing up in Guatemala, but most of them are not available here.

I have seen plantains recently. They’re weird, but plantain chips are nice. Gooseberries would be something you can find everywhere in Ireland but not so much here. Lingonberries with Swedish pancakes. You’d only find the jam though.

I second trying dragonfruit. It’s yummy and looks very different on the outside! Or maybe Lychees also funky on the outside and soft on the inside.
