A Thrifting We Did Go

We had a busy but fun weekend. On Saturday was The Husband’s parents 50th wedding anniversary. The Husband and his siblings (and spouses) threw a surprise party. It was nice to spend time with everyone and the food was delicious. Enough about that. There is yarn to talk about.

On Sunday we went thrifting. I love shopping in thrift shops because you  never know what you’re going to find and it is a real adventure. We each had in mind a few things we’d look for. H needed a new shirt or two for her new part time job (job number 3 if you include the private tutoring) at the library and she’s always looking for LARPing clothes. The husband likes an interesting tool or a good book. N likes the hunt. He usually finds something junky that he has to have. I’m sure you can guess what I keep my eye out for.

We hit four shops in NH and each found a few things that made us happy. The unique items include a book from the 1960’s about making wine at home that The Husband had to have, an Edgar Allen Poe book for kids that N got and more than a couple of shirts that H just loved  and will be perfect for work. I found yarn, vintage yarn to be exact. The first is about 3 skeins of Pingouin Fleur de Laine. It can’t be too long discontinued since I can find it listed on Ravelry and there is a fair amount listed. It’s a lovely deep red and will make a beautiful hat. The second yarn is 3 skeins of Red Heart Twisted Tweed in the salt and pepper color. There is only one listing for it on Ravelry. The skein and the listing doesn’t have yardage but I’m sure there is enough for a hat. The tag does list the original price of $1.00. I got it for the bargain price of $0.99 per skein.

So, what did you do with your weekend?

I have never been lucky enough to find yarn at a thrift store. But you know me, I’m all about the sweaters for upcycling.
