I have only a couple of things to show you today. First up we have my comfort knitting. What is comfort knitting you ask? Well it’s the thing you cast on when you want something that can be knit without much though. It leaves your mind free to think or it’s knitting that just feels good. Sock knitting for me is like breathing. I can cast on and knit without giving it a thought. The hardest part is winding the yarn. This is a plain and simple stockinette sock knit in Carriage House Woolens (now Pandoras Yarn) CoolWool in Hunters Glen. Beth (go check out her TGIS Day socks) gifted me the yarn when she visited. It’s greens and sort of grayish/purpleish. The yarn itself is very soft and squishy. Perfect for comfort knitting.
Next up is Bláthnat. I turned the heel on one sock. I don’t know if I will continue to work on these. I’m not crazy about the pattern or the way the sock looks. This may or may not be the last time you see it.
Wait. I know what you’re thinking. Where are the red TGIS Day Socks you ask? Come back Friday and you’ll see. They are totally worth the wait.

I totally agree, “comfort” knitting is so much nicer than “mindless.” Will have to adopt that, not that I do much “comfort” knitting. I’ve been knitting for almost 4 years, and so much of what I do still requires way too much effort. I guess at this point, the hexipuffs have become my comfort knitting. . .
The socks look great. I’m sorry that the Blathnat socks aren’t appealing to you. Could you finish one and see how it looks blocked/worn before determining their fate? I have to wonder if it’s just how they look pre-blocking?

I’m looking for a “comfort” shawl to knit…simple garter stitch…but I’m struggling to find a pattern I like. I might have to skip that and just go for some vanilla socks! 😀

I’m with you, I’m doing a bit of comfort knitting on a shawl at the moment and it’s lovely – my hands are moving and my mind is elsewhere…love it!!!

Your post makes me want to cast on for some socks! So did you start your Blathnat pair before there were any FO pictures out there? I’m curious, because I still haven’t been brave enough to participate in a mystery KAL. It seems like a lot of knitting for something you may or may not like in the end.

The “comfort knitting” socks are beautiful! So are the mystery socks – don’t give up on them!!! Even if you aren’t happy with them, they would make a lovely gift for someone (I’m not hinting or anything, no really, I’m not, really, I don’t even like to wear socks!).

I had the same problem with the Blathnat socks and wound up frogging the start of the first one. I suppose it didn’t help that the size I started didn’t fit me in the first place…and as I saw more and more progress pictures, I decided that these socks probably weren’t for me. I might make them for someone someday…but not for me.

Comfort knitting can be the best kind! Is the Blathnat the mystery sock of the month? You’re way braver than me, I always wait a week to see if I like where its going before I cast on.

I love that phrase, comfort knitting! I break it up between things I can crochet and also read or concentrate on TV at the same time. And then I have the patterns that I truly must focus on. My hubs tends to ask…do you have to count right now? 🙂

I like your idea of comfort knitting and the socks are pretty. When I comfort knit it is usually a hat or purse though. Mindless knitting in the round. Lol.

Life’s too short to knit socks (or anything else!) that’s not making you happy. Enjoy your pretty comfort socks for now and see where the yarn takes you.

Very spring-like colours in your comfort knitting socks with that lovely Robin’s Egg blue! If you’re not happy with Blathnat then rip it out. But have you had a chance to try it on? Sometimes that changes everything!

Vanilla socks are perfect comfort knitting, they’re my go-to comfort project too 🙂 Actually anything mindless, like garter stitch or stockinette in the round… Nothing I have to pay attention to is good for me!
