A Letter

My Dear 2012,

I had secretly hoped that you would be a kinder, gentler year than your predecessor, 2011. 2011 was a pretty cruel year bringing death to our doorstep at regular intervals. 2012, you are toying with me and my wallet and we are only a week into you.

First the fan on the car decided to give up after months of irregular service. It was tolerable in the summer when you blasted us with freezing air and we could open the windows to warm up but now that the temperatures have dropped you have decided to quit all together. It’s cold in the car with no heat. This is a repairable problem but really it makes no sense to spend more than the car is worth just to have heat. A new car with working heat is on the wish list but other expenses must come first.

N’s Pokewalker is clean as a whistle both inside and out after making a trip through the washing machine. Sadly electronics don’t enjoy water and Tide. I am trying to dry it out with the rice method but after more than 36 hours in the container the devise shows no signs of reviving. At least this is a reasonably priced item to replace and a lesson has been learned about emptying ones pockets before placing clothes in the hamper.

After paying what had better be the final payment for H’s college career, a bill that looks a lot like the sticker price of a new car, I breathed a sigh of relief expecting to have a good number of years before I had to shell out college related money again. I was wrong. Spot, H’s MacBook that’s carried her though 2 majors and 4 1/2 years of college got stuck, open. There is no way she could carry it around campus this way so off we went to the Apple store to see about repairs. Again, it would cost more than it was worth to repair so River, H’s new MacBook was purchased. She will be spending the coming days transferring all her stuff before we drop her back at school.

So 2012, my checking account is empty and my credit card is full. Could you possibly give me a break for the next couple of months? I promise not to complain about the excessive Presidential election coverage and the Mayan prediction of the world ending on December 21, 2012. Please.

Your bitch,

The only thing I can say is that bad things usually come in 3s so you have it covered? Hope things turn around asap!

Oh no! I pray things will even out over the next few months and that there won’t be any more surprises. But you know, Murphy just loves to come and live with people!

That’s WAY more than anyone’s fair share this early in the year. You deserve the entire rest of the year major expense free.
