I want to start by saying I have only measured one swatch. My new sweater knitting high could be dashed if my gauge (that evil evil monkey on all knitter’s backs) is way off. The swatches have been washed and the bottom one is dry and measured. It was a loser. I knit it in the recommended size 7 (4.5mm) needles. I should know by now I am a tight knitter and need to go up a needle size. Measuring on the second swatch will happen later today once it is totally dry.
The yarn is a total winner. It’s Ella Rae Classic in color 133 Brick. The lower swatch shows the little flecks of blue that run through the yarn. It’s really quite pretty. While knitting the first swatch I was thinking that maybe this was the wrong yarn for a sweater with a hood. It’s really pretty stiff and scratchy but once it was done and had a little soak in some room temperature water it had totally relaxed and softened up quite a bit. When I add some wool wash when blocking the actual sweater the yarn should be heavenly.

I hate swatching but I always get bit in the bum when I don’t… The colour of that yarn is so pretty!

Such a good little knitter to swatch! It’s hard for me because I don’t have access to my own laundry room, so for things that are washable I still can’t actually wash them without some trouble. Sigh.

I’m trying to get better at swatching (as in, actually doing them, doing them properly rather than only knitting a few rows to get an idea… etc!)
